We had the good fortune of connecting with KL Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KL, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was the desire to have control over my own schedule while also using my talents to produce a source of income. Merging my fondest hobby along with the business nature I have was an idea to tell be a stepping stone towards financial freedom.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Photography is a form of art which captures the emotion of a moment and preserves it to later tell a story. It creates memorabilia which can last a lifetime. While it is a saturated field, what sets me apart as a photographer is my distaste for posing. As a skill, I do have many poses ready to suggest during a shoot, however, I prefer to use my high spirits and passion for making others laugh, to capture those pure organic moments. I’m proud that not only do I provide a service, but while doing so, I help build confidence and bring joy to many individuals and families during our photo sessions. Being a photographer isn’t as easy as others may think. It’s more than just having a fancy camera and pressing the shutter button at the right time. It comes with needing to have the ability to work with many different personalities, and the skill of quick thinking to pivot when environment conditions aren’t as expected during a session. Thankfully, I possess a warm personality and have worked in customer service for many years, so adding this skill along with my passion to shoot helps me flourish in this field. What I want the world to know about KL Exposures is that being unique and staying true to your story is the best way to be. Don’t conform, stand out in a positive and mighty way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit me in the DFW area, there would be a few things I would have line up for us to experience. Being the photographer and nature lover I am, I’d have us stop by the Dallas arboretum and botanical gardens to enjoy soaking up some sun and stopping to pose in front of the many floral exhibits! We’d also have another photo opportunity by swinging by the Fabrication Yard; a local area dedicated for graffiti artist to showcase their art. For a bite to eat, we’d head to Soulful Street Bites to grab one of their famous soul bowls; which is a cornbread bowl topped with your choice of meat and delicious sides like mac & cheese, greens, and sweet potatoes. After eating, to work off some of those calories, I’d have us stop by Grandscape in The Colony to walk around and check out the many activities held there. For more creative vibes, I’d take us to In Living Color Studios for a fun night of karaoke, along with painting and sipping. We’d end the night with more scrumptious food, music, and drinks at Brew City Kitchen & Cocktails, their atmosphere is always top tier.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Becoming a successful photographer is a journey which starts with practicing getting the correct exposure, composition, and capturing a unique side of individuals. My initial experience is thanks to a host of friends putting up with my escapades to capture the perfect shot by directing many different tedious poses. I’d also like to shoutout one of my mentors Mike Nelson who helped me grow in adding new marketing strategies along with my skill to help me level up my photography business.
