Meet Hunter Connor | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunter Connor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hunter, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is essential for growth. In an artistic career, it’s especially important not to shy away from experimenting with different styles and techniques to bring your vision to life. Risk-taking has opened many doors for me—creatively and professionally. I always remind myself: you’ll never know unless you try. I’d rather take a chance on something uncertain than live with the regret of never having tried at all.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud of how far I’ve come compared to where I started. As artists and entrepreneurs, we can be our own toughest critics and sometimes forget how much we’ve grown. It’s taken a lot of patience, dedication, and resilience to reach this point in my career. I’ve been creating art since I was around 15, I’m 27 now and it’s definitely been a roller coaster ride. There were times when I stopped making art altogether, but those breaks were necessary. Stepping back helped me evolve and ultimately led me to develop the style that’s brought me the most success.
I define my work as a form of contemporary pop art. It can range from a portrait of Marilyn Monroe to a reinterpretation of a 1600s Dutch still life. I love taking iconic imagery and reimagining it in a dreamlike, modern context often incorporating elements of American consumerism and popular culture. Most of my work is digital painting, enhanced with 3D sculptural components, which I create through resin casting. Each piece is finished with a glossy resin topcoat, giving it a glass-like appearance

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For starters, definitely check out Rtown Gallery you won’t be disappointed! The Dallas Arboretum is beautiful year-round and perfect for a relaxing stroll. If you’re looking for artistic inspiration, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center are must visits. And if you’re in the mood for amazing sushi and small bites, Oishii is one of my favorites. They have several locations across the DFW area

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The biggest support in my artistic journey has undoubtedly been my mother. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her constant encouragement and belief in me. I’m also deeply grateful to my collectors, their support makes it possible for me to do what I love for a living. A special thank you to Rtown Gallery in Grapevine, TX, and to Rachel Townsend, the gallery’s owner, for providing such a beautiful space to showcase my work. Through Rtown, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with so many wonderful collectors and art lovers.
