We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Botelho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have owned my own interior design and home staging business for the past 7 years and have enjoyed the balance and freedom it gives me to make my own schedule and be present for my kids and husband. This year we decided to add another business to our portfolio that has synergies with what I already do in my design business, and purchased a commercial general contracting business called Iron Lock Construction Services. Until this year, my focus has been mainly on the residential side of design and construction, and now with this acquisition I can expand my work into the commercial side.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a female owned general contracting and construction company serving all of DFW. We have worked with ISDs, City funded projects and private business. What sets us apart from other companies is that we take a more boutique approach to our clients, offering them a one stop management of commercial construction and remodeling projects from design to completion. The challenges we face are being women in a male dominated industry, but we have been quickly embraced by our clients and our sub contractors by proving ourselves to be knowledgable, organized, dependable and deliver above expectations.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a foodie and I love a cocktail, so this itinerary will be around meals.

Breakfast/brunch spots: Sadelle’s, Egg Posh (Frisco), The Rustic, Breadwinners at North Park, Snooze, Mercat Bistro and José
Lunch Spots: Pecan Lodge, Meso Maya, Bistro 31,
Happy Hours: The Henry, Hudson House,
Dinner Spots: The Mexican, Town Hearth, Uchi, Catch
Things to do: Katy Trail walk and then Ice house for drinks and lunch, shopping at North Park, Spend the day at the Dallas Star in Frisco, or shopping at Legacy West

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my success to my husband who pushes me to get out of my comfort zone and is always my biggest supporter and cheerleader.
