Meet Elizabeth Rowland | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Rowland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Dallas, Texas and grew up in a Christian home. I would say the values instilled in me had an incredibly significant impact on who I am today because they taught me a true love for God. In combination with this, I grew up with two parents who encouraged me in my creative endeavors and taught me that the talents I had were given to me by God in order to share the truth of who He is with others. Spurred by that belief, I began to really delve into my musicianship and songwriting at a young age, knowing that it would develop into something that I could use to impact others. Over the years I grew a deep love not only for the art of songwriting but also for the beauty of using songs in order to help people come to a deeper knowledge of who Jesus truly is. It has been a beautiful journey and one that I know will continue on for a long time to come!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My goal with the songs that I write is to cause others to seriously contemplate not only the deep things of life but the reality of a God who wants to reveal Himself in light of it all. I believe that as persons, we have been created with a purpose in mind – and that purpose is to live with a revelation of the God who created the universe and His desire to have close relationship with us. Because of this belief I have spent much of my life crafting my specific style and approach when it comes to songwriting, a style that represents the beauty of God and speaks of His love in an intriguing and unique way. My style of music is not the typical “worship” style but one that has more of an abstract approach that is meant to draw people in who would not normally choose to listen to a song about the God of the Bible. I like to include more of a “cinematic”, somber, and beautiful feel when it comes to my music with the hopes that it would draw people in.
My initial start with music began with an EP titled “There Is a Mountain” and represents a journey of discovering and drawing closer to God. This project, though beautiful, turned out to be a difficult task as it was a “learning experience” for me to say the least. I had never done a professional music project before, and was pretty much on my own when it came to recording, finding a producer, the works. Thankfully I had some incredible people around me that encouraged me and helped me a long the way (which I am eternally grateful for). I had never experienced as much doubt and insecurity before as I did when it came to this project…but I knew that it was the right thing for me to do. Finally finishing it and putting it out was the greatest relief and something that could only have been done with the help of God.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
oooo I love this question! For starters, I would take them to a favorite coffee shop – most likely LDU on Fitzhugh or Merit in Highland Park. I would then suggest we go on a walk on the Katy Trail for a little bit, depending on the weather of course since everyone knows Texas can get HOT to say the least. Something I also love is the trolly in downtown. I’d have us park at the West End Parking Garage, walk up to Klyde Warren Park, and then hop on the trolly over there. Maybe grab a donut from The Salty Donut Food Truck first. After that we would probably grab some food at Smash Burger or something and then hop over to the Dallas Museum of Art for a nice afternoon! After that I’d have us grab Dinner at a favorite Italian place of mine, Cremona Bistro and then end the night with some live Jazz at Triumphs in the Design District. A full but super fun day!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, mentors, and friends.
