We had the good fortune of connecting with ALX SPINS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ALX, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been passionate about music and the arts — it’s something that truly runs in my blood. My mother was an incredible singer and also played the sitar, a beautiful Indian string instrument, and my uncle was one of the biggest movie stars in Bollywood. So in many ways, choosing an artistic path felt natural to me. DJing, however, was something I actually stumbled into during the early ’90s, and from that moment on, I was hooked. It’s been an amazing journey, and to this day, I’m still pursuing my passion and finding new ways to express it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is deeply rooted in rhythm, culture, and connection. As a DJ and creative, I’ve always aimed to blend diverse musical influences — from my South Asian roots to global electronic sounds — into something that moves both the body and the spirit. What sets me apart is my commitment to fusing traditional and modern elements, especially through the lens of Indo House. It’s more than a sound; it’s a cultural movement.

Two projects I’m especially proud of are GenerAsian Radio, which I co-host with Nibu, and Spindia, an event series we created to bring people from all walks of life together to dance, celebrate, and embrace the fusion of world music and house. Both platforms have become safe spaces for creative expression and cultural celebration.

Right now, I’m really excited to be working on original Indo House productions with my boy Snzzzy. It’s been a long time coming, and we’re pushing boundaries with this one — so definitely stay tuned.

Getting here wasn’t easy. The industry is competitive, and staying true to your vision while evolving takes a lot of resilience. There were times I questioned my path, but surrounding myself with a strong support system, staying focused on the “why,” and constantly learning helped me push through the tough moments.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that your story is your strength. Authenticity resonates more than anything else. I want the world to know that what I do isn’t just about music — it’s about building community, creating space for culture on the dance floor, and inspiring the next generation to own their unique voice.

My brand is a reflection of all that — rooted in passion, shaped by culture, and driven by a mission to connect people through music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Houston for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience — great food, music, culture, and a taste of what makes this city so unique.

We’d start with the food, because Houston’s restaurant scene is next level. For Indian fine dining, Musaafer is a must — not just for the incredible flavors, but for the atmosphere. It’s a full sensory experience that shows how elegant and diverse Indian cuisine can be. For Tex-Mex, which is basically a religion here, Tony’s Mexican Restaurant is my go-to. Great vibes, strong margaritas, and authentic dishes that never miss.

During the day, we’d hit some of Houston’s underrated cultural gems — the Museum of Fine Arts, a walk through the beautiful Buffalo Bayou Park, and maybe even a trip out to NASA’s Johnson Space Center if they’re into space and science.

At night, it’s all about the music. Houston has a growing underground House scene that’s totally underrated. We’d definitely hit Bauhaus for a night of deep grooves, and if the right show is in town, Stereo Live delivers big-time energy. I’d make sure they caught one of our Spindia events if it lines up — there’s nothing quite like dancing to Indo House with a diverse crowd that truly gets it. I’d also take them to sit in on a taping of GenerAsian Radio, or even have them guest DJ if they’re in the game — it’s all about community and sharing the culture.

Throughout the week, we’d also check out local pop-up DJ events and warehouse parties, which happen all over the city. The local DJs here are hungry, creative, and always pushing the envelope. You just have to know where to look.

To unwind, we’d end one of the nights at Better Luck Tomorrow — amazing cocktails, laid-back energy, and a perfect spot to just vibe out and reflect on a week well spent.

Houston is a vibe — it’s diverse, soulful, and full of surprises. The food, the people, and the music scene make it the kind of place where you can truly experience the world in one city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who’ve played a role in my journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for all of them. First and foremost, I want to dedicate this shoutout to my late mother — her unwavering support throughout my life laid the foundation for everything I’ve done. She believed in me before I even believed in myself.

I also want to thank my family, especially my wife, for her constant patience and understanding — from late nights to weekends away doing shows, she’s always had my back.

A huge shoutout to Yogi G of Karma DJs for staying true to the scene and always pushing me to do better. To my GenerAsian Radio co-host, Nibu — your insight, conversations, and shared vision have shaped me in so many ways.

Kunal Merchant of Indo Warehouse deserves major credit for inspiring me to fully embrace House Music and helping bring Indo House to the global stage. And finally, to everyone I’ve had the chance to work with — thank you for being a part of this incredible journey.
