We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Rosenberger, Jay Holton, Zach Rosenberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh Rosenberger, Jay Holton, Zach Rosenberger, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Josh: I really wanted to build something that was “mine” and to have a place where I could focus passion and energy that I don’t really get to put in my regular 9-5 job. I want to build something that I can not only share, lift up friends and family, but also pass down as a legacy of something great.

Jay: After working for many companies for years it is nice to be able to build something from the ground up. It is nice to bring something from conception to reality.

Zach: Having creative freedom, it is hard to do that when you are working for someone else. It is also great to express my feelings on certain things and make ideas into a product and create something. This doesn’t feel like work and I like that about Chandlr.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Chandlr is unlike any other candle company – we started on a mission to be bold and different while offering a candle through a different medium, granulated sand wax, which creates a highly versatile, long lasting and amazing candle. You can burn it traditionally, use it in a wax warmer, or even set it out as an air freshener.

Any new venture can be hard – we started by researching an already saturated candle market and took our time with the process. Through many test phases and feedback, we settled on something that could deliver not only value for our customers but a new take on a classic product.

We overcome challenges as a team by working towards resolution to an issue – if there is something we need to do, make, or provide to our customers we use our collective skills to meet the mark. We’ve learned that risk is beneficial to growth and taking risk in a safe environment makes those risks all the more beneficial.

We want the world to know we are Chandlr! We are unapologetically bold – our background is strong in military, fire, police, EMS, and sales – we put those values and skills into our business along with the humor we picked up along the way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’ll start out with downtown McKinney, hitting up the square and checking out all of the small businesses. For lunch we’ll head over to The Yard for a few drinks and food. Then, we’ll head over to Grandscape in The Colony for a little walk-around, live music, bars and see the sights on the ferris wheel.

The next day we’ll hit up Costco – you gotta have a Costco dog after walking around looking at amazing deals, we’ll stop by and say hi to Charles on the way out. Later, we’ll head out to the city for some night life in Bishop Arts but before we go, we’ll hit up Revolution barbershop and get you fixed up by Milad.

We had a great night out, we’ll hit up Maple Leaf Cafe in McKinney for breakfast and then if you’re not from Texas, our next stop is HEB to stock up on some supplies.

We’ll wind down with a nice scenic walk in the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest shoutout would have to go to our mom (Zach, Josh) – she has always been a single mom, working multiple jobs, and always pushed a strong work ethic. Over the last few years she has also been suffering from cancer but still pushed through work till retirement and moved across the country from New York to Texas which brought all of us siblings together in one place. That learned work-ethic pushed us into our own careers and was the spark that started the fire here at Chandlr.

Although family life has its ups and downs and as a whole we all went through a lot together, we recognize the pain, sacrifice, and dedication our mom put into our family and we represent those values in our business – with the determination to succeed.
