We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalia Wall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kalia, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The hair industry necessitates an ongoing commitment to education and training from hairstylists in order to remain abreast of the latest trends, techniques, and products. It is a common misconception that the completion of initial training equates to the conclusion of educational pursuits. However, the hair industry is perpetually evolving, with continuous emergence of new products, techniques, and trends. To remain competitive and deliver superlative services to clients, hairstylists must dedicate themselves to continual education and training. This may encompass participation in workshops, seminars, and classes, and engagement in online training programs and webinars. Moreover, many hairstylists opt to specialize in specific domains, such as extensions, color correction, or men’s grooming, necessitating additional training and education. Taken as a whole, the hair industry mandates a significant commitment to continual education and training in order to remain current and provide optimal services to clientele. This is a fundamental aspect of achieving success as a hairstylist.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’d be delighted to share my career story with you.
As a hairstylist and entrepreneur, my journey has been filled with passion, dedication, and perseverance. I’ve always been fascinated by the art of hairstyling and the impact it can have on people’s confidence and self-expression.
I began my career as an assistant in a local salon, where I honed my skills and learned from experienced stylists. I quickly realized that I wanted to specialize in natural hair care and styling, as I saw a lack of representation and expertise in this area. I dedicated myself to learning about the unique needs and challenges of natural hair, and I became certified in various techniques and products.
As my skills and reputation grew, I started building a loyal client base. I listened to their concerns, understood their needs, and provided personalized services that exceeded their expectations. Word-of-mouth referrals and online reviews helped my business flourish, and I eventually opened my own salon, B Tru 2 You Hair Salon, LLC.
Throughout my journey, I’ve faced challenges such as self-doubt, financial constraints, and balancing work-life responsibilities. However, I’ve learned valuable lessons that have helped me overcome these obstacles:
1. **Stay focused on your passion**: When faced with doubts or challenges, remind yourself why you started your business in the first place. My passion for hairstyling and helping others has kept me motivated and driven.
2. **Invest in yourself**: Continuously educate yourself on the latest techniques, products, and industry trends. This will help you stay competitive and provide the best services to your clients.
3. **Build a strong support system**: Surround yourself with positive, like-minded individuals who will encourage and support you through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.
4. **Stay adaptable**: Be open to change and willing to pivot when necessary. This will help you navigate unexpected challenges and stay ahead of the competition.
As for what I want the world to know about me or my brand, it’s simple:
* I’m dedicated to providing exceptional hairstyling services that exceed my clients’ expectations.
* I’m passionate about empowering women and men to embrace their natural beauty and self-expression.
* I’m committed to building a community that supports and uplifts one another.
* I’m always striving to improve and grow, both personally and professionally.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, who have been my rock and biggest supporters throughout my journey as a hairstylist.
First and foremost, I want to thank my mother, who has been my guiding light and biggest cheerleader. She was the one who encouraged me to pursue my passion for hair and beauty and has been there for me every step of the way. I also want to thank my father, who has been my rock and provided me with unwavering support and encouragement. His guidance and wisdom have helped me navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, and I am forever grateful for his influence in my life.
And to my children, who are my everything and my reason for working so hard. Your smiles, hugs, and encouragement mean the world to me, and I am so grateful to be your parent. You inspire me every day to be the best version of myself, and I hope to make you proud.
Thank you all for being my support system, my motivators, and my loves. I couldn’t do this without you!
