We had the good fortune of connecting with Brett Coolidge and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brett, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my business the ultimate goal was freedom. Working in a commission based salon means pressure from management to hit certain quotas, such as product sales, client counts, and fast services. Owning my own business means I get to take my time and customize each service to each individual, recommend products to fit clients’ needs, and focus on quality versus quantity. I get to provide the experience my clients deserve and build lasting relationships.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is the variety of training I’ve received, which allows me to blend traditional, technical, and modern techniques to customize each service for the individual. I specialize in blonding services for all hair colors and textures, as well as hair extensions, and I take pride in tailoring every look to fit my clients’ unique needs.

My journey wasn’t easy. After training at Vidal Sassoon, I volunteered at salons in LA to gain industry experience, and I assisted at various salons across LA and Dallas. I’ve also pursued advanced education and love collaborating with other stylists to keep evolving. The key lessons I’ve learned are to take pride in your work, give every client 100%, and never stop learning.

Ultimately, my goal is to create positive relationships with clients, providing full transparency in every service. We’re a family-operated business, and we truly love what we do and value our clients like family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
With a newborn at home, getting out of the house isn’t a regular thing, but when we do, we love to make it count! If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d start by catching some live music at The Rustic or Dos Equis Pavilion. We’d definitely hit up Arcade 92 in McKinney for some retro fun. For dining, I’d take them to some of my favorite spots like Medium Rare, Manpuku, and Fish N Tails. I’d also suggest a cooking class at Kitchen Social, where my wife and I recently learned how to make homemade pasta—so much fun and delicious too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my mentor from Vidal Sassoon, Lucas. His dedication to providing a good education helped me build the foundation needed to succeed.
