We had the good fortune of connecting with Chunni Bunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chunni, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I LOVE to CREATE.

Creating is something I’ve done and can do for FREE and still ENJOY it.

There’s NO LIMIT in CREATING.

No matter the CARDS you’re dealt with.

I believe it STRENGTHENS my WILL when I CREATE something out of NOTHING.

I use “DETERMINATION”.

No matter what LIFE throws at me.

Honestly, it only helps me become a BETTER CREATOR when faced with everyday OBSTACLES and to CHANNEL it into ART.

Into VISUALS, into BODY MOVEMENT (DANCE), DRUMS, INSTRUMENTALS, SONGS, etc.

It’s UNIVERSAL.

It’s just a PIECE of me that’s able to CREATE my EXISTENCE into a SONG/MEDLEY.

I LOVE to COMMUNICATE through MUSIC.

I realize I’m NOT for everybody, and that there’s a SPECIAL type of FOLK that really UNDERSTANDS my BEING through MUSIC, through FOOD, through VISUAL ARTS.

Because MUSIC is so UNIVERSAL, I BELONG in that UNIVERSE.

With my own LAND and THINGS to be able to SURVIVE and THRIVE at the same time.

I believe when you LOVE something, you will KEEP PURSUING it NO MATTER the OUTCOME.

If you think about it, we have to WORK and put EFFORT into things.

Why not do it with your PASSION?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Music holds a significant place in my life. As previously mentioned, I grew up in a musical environment, coming from a family with deep roots in Baptist Christianity. My parents have consistently practiced their faith, which laid the foundation for my early musical experiences. At a young age, I would sit beside my mother at the piano as she sang, played, and directed the church choir every Sunday. My first solo performance occurred at the age of four with the song “God is So Good.”

As I continued to explore my musical interests, my brothers and I began to harmonize together at home. This teamwork eventually led us to perform for my grandmother and mother, and before long, we were participating in church revivals, performing two selections by the age of seven. This early exposure fueled my passion for music and prompted me to learn various instruments. My eldest brother, Darrell Jr., was part of the school drumline, and I would watch him practice regularly. Inspired by him, I began to play the drums myself and had my first gig at my father’s church at the age of eleven, accompanying my brothers as they sang and played the keys. To this day, I continue to perform at my church in Dallas, Texas.

In 2020, I decided to take my creativity further by learning to produce music using a mobile app called BandLab. I composed over twenty songs during that time and felt it was time to elevate my work. In 2023, I invested in my first laptop, which allowed me to explore GarageBand. Utilizing my previous musical knowledge, I began to learn the fundamentals of music production software.

Reflecting on my collection of songs created during the pandemic, one particular piece resonated with me the most, inspiring me to release my debut single, “One Night,” under the name Chunni Bunn. Initially, I was apprehensive about entering the music scene, especially given that many artists around me had access to professional studios. However, I recognized that my path would be different, and I began to establish my home studio from the ground up. In 2023, I wrote, arranged, and produced three singles, and by 2024, I aimed to create my first album, which I titled “1865.”

“1865” represents a significant milestone in my creative journey. Throughout the pandemic and the subsequent production of my album, I have been quite active, touring with various artists and performing for international acts, all while managing my job in the kitchen and striving to find balance in my life.

I want to emphasize that my search for fulfillment has led me to discover what truly brings me joy. While I have ventured into various businesses, including gold design and real estate investment, nothing compares to my passion for music. Therefore, I have made a commitment to prioritize my creative endeavors. With determination and perseverance, I believe that we can achieve more than we ever imagined.

I am excited to share that I have new music coming soon. If you haven’t already, you can find me on all major platforms. I will announce the release dates, and you can follow my journey on my Instagram page @chunni_bunn.
