We had the good fortune of connecting with Sky Singleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sky, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my brand are two things. Providing a way for my son and family, and giving back to the community that supports me. I feel as a small business owner we need to understand that people choose to shop with us over commercial businesses because we are outed in the community. So the smallest gesture and our duty is to give back. Of course I started working for myself to provide financial freedom and a dynasty that not my son can take over but I can invest in him in any way possible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I’m a tattoo Artist and I think what sets me apart is that I actually tattoo melanated skin. Meaning there are a lot of amazing artist who see a black canvas and freeze up. I totally love learning about better practices on tattooing darker skin and learning the science behind it. There has definitely been many challenges behind becoming a tattoo artist, I think the biggest obstacle has been self doubt. As an artist it’s hard to just see your work and thinks yeah that’s it, I’m my worse critic.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’ve actually had the pleasure of having family down from cali and I love showing them around. We’re definitely hitting six flags that’s a must. Then we’re going to hit some museums. And really explore the Texas culture. Take them to East Texas and let them witness Friday night lights cause there’s nothing like football in texas

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel like I have cross paths with many people that I have taken something from, however there are two people that I feel like without them I definitely wouldn’t be in the position I am today. First my girlfriend Veronica who has been holding me down for upwards of 10 years. She seen the drive in me before I did. She taught me financial literacy and how to not just make money but, make it into something bigger. Second and dang near just as important in the first Jeremey aka Kartoon Hero who was my first mentor and the person behind my tattoo vision. He passed away after we spent almost everyday together for six months. I know a huge part of who I am is because he lives through me.
