Hi Kelley, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Head Case Hair Studio contributes to the community and the world by prioritizing sustainability and environmental responsibility. As a certified Green Business and Green Circle Salon, we recycle 90-95% of our waste and offer cruelty-free, vegan, and organic products. We partner with One Tree Planted to support reforestation efforts, enhancing global sustainability, and The Lions Collective, bringing awareness to mental health and suicide prevention. Additionally, we use environmentally friendly products, promoting safer and more sustainable beauty practices and educating fellow salon professionals and clients on sustainability practices to help inspire sustainable change and lessen our carbon footprint.
Kelley Swing is a Rolling Stone Culture Council thought leader and has published numerous articles on social impact and sustainable beauty on RollingStone.com. Kelley Swing has also published the best-selling book “Sustainable Salons Make Millions” a guide to building a profitable sustainable beauty business, to inspire fellow salon owners to choose sustainability for their beauty business.
Each September, to show our continued support of being a cruelty-free salon, we hold our special event, “Dog Days of September.” We offer free blowouts and men’s haircuts in exchange for dog and cat food donations for our local Human Society.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since founding the first sustainable salon in my area in 2016, I have been a trailblazer in sustainability within the beauty industry. My vision encompasses a larger impact, driving me to evolve and grow my business and mission. Recognizing needs from sustainability to mental health, I continually learn, practice, and teach to inspire change. My leadership aims to unite people for a greater purpose and to share my experiences to guide others. Grateful for global learning opportunities, I transformed knowledge into a thriving sustainable beauty business. Being featured in Rolling Stone and publishing a best-selling book are honors that reflect this journey.
Head Case Hair Studio is a testament to the dedication of our team, creating a welcoming and loving environment for clients and staff alike. We love to educate our clients and fellow salon professionals on the benefits of sustainability to help inspire a shift to help lesson our carbon footprint. It has never been easy, but when you have people depending on you, it just changes how you show up and gives you a reason to keep going. The lesson I have learned is never to believe everything that you hear. do your own research and trust your gut.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take everyone to the stockyards because you get the full Texas country experience. Catch live music in Sundance Square and go on a fun shopping excursion in downtown Southlake. Visit Grapevine for souvenir shopping, wine tasting, and dinner. My final destination is my favorite best-kept secret restaurant, The Classic Caffe, in downtown Roanoke.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The success of Head Case Hair Studio is deeply rooted in the dedication and collaboration of my incredible team. While I can establish the foundation of the business, it is my team that truly brings it to life and drives its success. I owe a great deal to my daughter, who manages the salon with exceptional skill and passion. Together, we have built a thriving business through teamwork, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. Our journey of collaboration, system-building, and evolution has led to a venture we are immensely proud of.
