We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Harke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that I wanted to be solely independent. I wanted to be in charge of my hours and how much money I made. I knew that in the beauty industry, the best opportunity for me to do that would be self-employment. I built my clientele at a salon that provided me with a steady income until I had enough business to branch out on my own, which I did after 4 years in the industry.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a custom hair color specialist and an extension artist. My passion is giving women the hair they’ve always wanted. I take the time to build relationships with my clients and really listen to their needs. I’m very proud of the fact that I have a large amount of clients that have been seeing me for a decade or more and they trust me to make them look and feel their best. That is how I became successful. When people trust you they send their friends and family and it snowballs from there. I’ve learned that when you take good care of your clients and make them feel heard and cared for, it builds loyalty. I’m also passionate about my craft and invest time and money learning all the time and that reflects in my work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well we would certainly head to Grapevine and check out Meow Wolf. After that we would have lunch in downtown Grapevine at the famous Weinburgers deli. We would also check out some live music at Lava Cantina in the Colony. Grandscape is a really cool place to hang out and do fun activities like play miniature golf and drive go karts. We would also check out the Ferris wheel. Dinner would be at Seven Doors or Thirsty Lion.
Some other fun things to do are walk around the Square in downtown Mckinney and check out all the cute boutiques and shops. A great place to have lunch is The Yard which has a really great atmosphere and outdoor seating as well as good food and service.
At some point, we would make a trip to downtown Dallas and check out Fond which is a really hot new restaurant that features unique Italian cuisine and maybe hit up the art museum
We definitely would check out Hutchins bbq for a brisket fix
Puttshack in Addison would also be on the list for indoor mini golf
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say my grandmother because she was also a hairstylist and at one time a salon owner. She passed before I went to beauty school but I was always so fascinated with her job and visiting her at her salon so I believe that she deserves some recognition for her influence
