We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Marquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up in a home where entrepreneurism and creativeness were present. I remember spending endless hours in the spring planting flowers with my dad on our home lawn. My dad always had a creative eye and enjoyed making and creating things around the house. I discovered my love for florals at a young age and was intrigued by them. I enjoyed being around flowers, plants, and just nature in general. I always dreamed of working with flowers at a professional level or having my own floral business. I started helping friends and family with their floral needs whether it be for a wedding or an important event. With much encouragement from family and friends I decided to pursue my floral business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I first embarked on this floral journey I knew I wanted to provide my customers with a floral service that captured their vision and personalities without breaking the bank. The wedding industry and social media have created this idea that florals can only be part of big events if you have a six-digit budget which isn’t necessarily true. Couples with tight budgets can also have beautiful florals on their special day with the right vision and direction, which I strive for when working with budget-friendly clients. I can’t remember the number of emails and ads I received when I begin my floral business on how to find the right client, or how to book six-figure clients but the truth is I’m not in business to only work with big budget clients. It’s about paying it forward and using my gift of floral design to create weddings for every budget!
One of the greatest satisfaction in my profession is reveal day when my clients get to see what they thought was not possible.
Through out the years I have met florist from all over the world that love to share their tips and tricks, It is amazing to know that there is floral community that supports and cares for other fellow florists, to them I am eternally thankful!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived in the DFW area for 31 years I moved from California when I was 5! I’ve seen shops come and go and many new developments in the past years but one of my go-to places is Bishop Arts! I don’t know if it’s my artistic heart but it has everything great food, music and arts!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been my biggest supporter in this floral journey not to mention my biggest fans my husband and my kids! I have learned from them that you must be willing to let go of your fears and trust the inner voice that encourages you to do great things. I’ve also learned that to achieve what few can achieve, you must be willing to do what others are not willing to do. I thank them for believing in me when I didn’t!
