We had the good fortune of connecting with Jin Patton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I used to be terrified of taking risks. Always nervous of what others thought of me, a real people pleaser. The things I’ve been through in life have impacted me in this way the most. You can’t be scared of something you’ve never tried. It might be the best decision you’ve ever made. Moving across country on my own at 24, brought me out of my comfort zone more than ever before. But a risk I was willing to take. It brought me a new life, a wonderful husband, a new family, a new home, and a business I’d never imagine having.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a 28 year old wife and dog mama. I’ve been doing hair for 10 years, going on my 2nd year of having my own business. I was born and raised in small town Iowa. I learned a lot of responsibility growing up with 8 step/half siblings. Growing up in a poor community, I started earning money at a young age and I learned to work hard for things I wanted in life. After losing everything and almost losing my life in a fire at 22 and going through a divorce at 24, I was hit with the heaviest load life had ever brought me. I decided I couldn’t live my life thinking I just got the bad end of the stick and thinking everyone owed me something. I turned to God. I realized that bad things just happen sometimes that may be completely out of your control. You can have the finest things in life, all the money, all the success, beautiful family, but if you don’t have God, you’re really missing out on something amazing.
I’ve always wanted to have a role in the beauty industry. I’ve always had a fascination with art, to be able to create something totally different than what you started with. Like how a potter takes a slab of clay and can turn it into a beautiful vase. I’m so thankful to have a career helping people feel confident and beautiful. Taking their already beautiful features and accentuating something new.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d say let’s go to a Texas Rangers game at Globe Life Field or Dallas Cowboys game at AT&T Stadium. Back in August, I seen The Jonas Brothers at Globe Life. It made my year, a long lived dream come true. DFW puts on some good concerts. We’d definitely have to eat some yummy fajitas at Joe T. Garcia’s. Go see a movie at the Moviehouse & Eatery. Explore the beautiful historical Stockyards and see where Yellowstone was filmed. I’ve been here 4 years and there’s still so much I haven’t explored yet.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God. I would’ve never had the opportunity to have my own business without all His answered prayers. He has lead me to places I’ve never imagined being in. He has blessed my clientele with amazing people all with amazing stories to tell. I’ve prayed my business be used as a ministry and that God would place people in my chair who need loving like Jesus. Let me just say, I’ve been blessed more than I’ve blessed.
