We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
My biggest habit and most helpful one, is in the way I communicate. I talk, ALOT, which has allowed me to gain confidence in speaking up for myself, communicating with my clientele, and always asking questions. It’s allowed me to further my education in my career by asking questions and not fearing that I’ll look stupid, to be thorough in my consultations, and to build a rapport with my peers and clientele.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Absolutely!  I specialize in curly hair, alternative haircuts, and unique color! I love all things alternative and different, but i especially love being able to provide curlies with a service that allows them to embrace their natural texture, and feel confident in it. I think what sets me apart is my work ethic and the way that I’m always pushing myself to be better as an artist and continuing my education to do better for my clients. My goal is to provide an environment that cultivates confidence and self love, as self well as a safe space for people of all walks of life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t eat out too often but when I do, my guilty pleasure tends to be Mariachi’s Dine-In off Camp Bowie and Locke Ave, they have great vegan Mexican options! My favorite spots to frequent in the metroplex, are the botanical gardens in Fort Worth, or any local music, oddities, or thrift stores. I love Horror Freak in Hurst, Born late records in Fort Worth, Texas family thrift center, or CD warehouse in Arlington!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Valerie Norris, Charlie Bonham, and my Acute Salon family! Charlie and Val have spent years cultivating a gender neutral space for the salon to be a safe and open to all people. Their dedication to to their stylists, to their clients, and especially to their community has been some of my greatest inspiration as an artist and as a person in general.
