We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Dupree and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Dallas Tx. My family is from Mabank Tx which is where I grew up most of my childhood. During that time, I spent a lot of time at my aunt and uncles Photography studio, (Studio 35) in Seven Points, TX. which was the only studio in town. At a young age, I watched them run their business and always carried a Polaroid camera with everywhere I went. I enjoyed watching them work and was intrigued by photography ever since. After moving back to Dallas at the age of 19 and bought my first professional camera. I fell even more in love with photography.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My full-time career is in Law Enforcement as a 911 dispatcher. I have been doing this for 21 years. My photography business I do in my free time or whenever I get the chance. I always try and make sure I have time for my clients. It can be difficult at times when you have 100’s of photos to edit, and a full-time job, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The name Blue Arrow Photography I owe to my grandfather Dupree and my love of Law Enforcement. My grandfather had a passion for collecting arrowheads. As kids and we would search for them together or just sit and look at his collection. Law Enforcement has a saying or what we “The Thin Blue Line”. This represents our brother/sister hood. So, I thought I would put the two together and came up Blue Arrow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Smoky Rose is a must for a beautiful ambiance, great food, music and drinks. The Dallas Arboretum is always a favorite of mine, as well as the Fort Worth Stockyards. Coffee being my favorite drink of choice, we would visit every coffee shop that we could. Take a visit to the Farmers Market or somewhere to enjoy good live music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Aunt and Uncle, Karen and David Dupree I give most credit to. Because of them is why I have my love for photography. I owe a lot to my clients who trust me with their memories. I’ve always had encouragement from my friends and family to keep doing what I love.
