Meet Elizabeth Chaides-Rojas | Henna Tattoo Artist and Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Chaides-Rojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking can create instability, but also opportunity. Many times if I have felt stuck in a position where I can no longer advance or see a future in, taking a risk has helped me recoup and find a different opportunity that suits my needs. Because I took a leap and left an extremely draining admin job, I dived into pursuing my art career. It’s still a feat I do part time with other work, but being involved in the line of work and community has made me the most satisfied Ive ever been career wise.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What excites me most about my art is being able to incite fantastical emotions, memories, or moments for others. Whether it’s a colorful, iridescent painting of a mermaid going about her life, or a beautiful temporary henna tattoo of a client’s favorite flowers. I want people to see and wear my art, feeling a little lighter and a little whimsical, while going about their regular day to day routine.

This line of work isn’t easy in the world we live in. Life is expensive and busy, but persistance and finding inspiration within others in the art community keeps me going. As someone who is fairly introverted, I learned that being actively involved with other artists, is one of the best motivating forces to keep at my craft.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the outdoors, so my firdt thoughts went to the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge as well as the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, and the Dallas Arboretum. Kayaking at River Legacy Park in Arlington is fun as well during the warmer months.

Fair Park in Dallas was also one of my favorite places growing up, seeing the butterfly gardens, the aquarium and the big pond (now exhibiting dinosaurs, outside the old science place museum) was a staple. There are so many different museums around it’d be hard to pick one. Theres small local art museums like the Arlington museum of art to huge ones like the Perot or Dallas museum of Art, it’d be a hard pick.

For food, I love Turkish and Medirerranean restaraunts. Lezzet Cafe (Dallas) and Peace Middle East cafe (Richardson), and Fattoush (Arlington/Pantego) are my favorites.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jasmin from CreativeHennaArt who runs the booth at the texas state fair gave me the opportunity to work with her several years ago after an artist friend of mine, Monica, reccommended me . Working there helped build my confidence as an artist and realize that this kind of work wasn’t innaccessible for me.

Additionally, working at the fair and with creators like GlowExotic from WeAreArt showed me how fun it is to be apart of the local artist community.

I’d also like to give a shoutout to my partner, Damon Harris who encourages me one artidt to another, and has helped me at a lot of my more intense events without a second thought.
