We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Leotta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my career in Big Advertising where very few women held high-level positions. Once they started a family, most did not return to the office. My friend Meg was a Creative Director and we commuted on the same train. But she would sprint for it because missing that train meant she wouldn’t see her kids all day. She left in the mornings before they were awake!
I knew I wanted a career AND a family. Starting my own business in 2009 and working from home was my plan to be with my kids as much as possible. That’s exactly what I got – now I’m here every day when they get off the bus at 3pm.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The health coaching field has grown tremendously in the past decade and there’s been a natural rise in coaches looking for support. I’ve combined over 10 years of a successful health coaching practice with 20+ years of online marketing experience to help health coaches earn a living doing the work they love. Our very active Health Coach Power Community Facebook group has 14,000 members. Our podcast has over 250 episodes – and going strong. And our paid programs inside Healthy Profit University are growing in number every year.
I’m most proud that I’ve been able to build this business while raising a family and maintaining my own health and happiness along the way. It definitely hasn’t been easy but I’ve learned to get it done versus getting it perfect. That’s been a secret to success for sure.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I always like to hit the local yoga studios!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to David Vendetti, who was one of the very first yoga teachers I had – and certainly the one who left the biggest impression. I started yoga while still working in advertising, to help with stress and anxiety. It ended up changing everything about how I lived and the path my career would take. Training with David opened up parts of myself I didn’t know existed and showed me how to serve others with laughter, warmth and depth.
