Meet King Hollis | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with King Hollis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi King, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I told my kids to never be afraid of success and how you overcome that fear is to be brutal honest with yourself and commit to the hard work it takes to live your dreams.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a Director, Producer, Editor and Writer in the Film and Television space for 31 years. I Think the thing that sets me apart from others is quite frankly my journey and my unique position as both Independent filmmaker and Creative Executive. I’m most proud of the work I have done in the community with my partners in health care, social justice and political reform efforts. My journey was not easy it was more akin to Jonah and the Whale, and is still an uphill battle. That said, I am blessed to do what I love with who I love. I overcame my challenges by tapping into a higher power and a focused ambition on my vision. What I had learned the most is that you if you visualize your purpose and become relentless in your pursuit, you can get to any destination you see for yourself. Don’t ever give up. I want the world to know that my story is about a creative warrior that fought to make his voice heard. And one who fought for those trying to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I am a foodie, So food would be at the center of the adventures. Our upscale food adventure would be The Mexican. We must do sushi, SASA. And my burger and beer option always Rodeo Goat.. For music, we would go to Deep Ellum or the Kessler to see what Jeff has going. For drinks either The IVY, The Cock and Bull, the speak easy room at the Charles or the bar at good ole Captial Grille. We would have to hang and watch classics at the Texas Theather. And for art the DMA or the Nasher will likely have some good stuff. As far as interesting people? They need to meet, Vicki Meek, John Haden, Carty Talkigton, KC Fox, Lindell Singleton and Micheal Cain.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
