We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanay Joseph and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided to start my own business to be more available for my children and have control over my schedule. I started doing hair as a side hustle and as the demand for my services grew I decided to take it on full time. I attended college for business management and obtained the certification  needed for  beauty licensing. I also further educated myself in all textures to expand my financial spectrum. I wanted my business to be in the area I live in for the convenience of being close to my kids for any needs, as they are the main priority.

What should our readers know about your business?
Studio529 is a hair salon in Ennis, Tx 20 mins outside of Dallas. I specialize in healthy hair! I provide services to women, men, children and to all hair textures. I am skilled in haircutting, coloring, braiding, styling, extensions, locs, waxing, and makeup. I am available for private booking for weddings, birthdays, Quinceanera’s, or any special occasion. Appointments are available to book via text to 972-825-1821. There is barber at Studio529 and there are rental booths available. I have a great passion for hair and became interested when I was 11. I would go to the hair salon and sometimes wouldn’t like my hair which encouraged me to learn to do it myself. I feel that my desire to give my clients my best, encouraging feedback to adhere to their needs, and guaranteeing my work assists me in standing out. I’m most proud of being a business owner for over 12 years and not being in debt. The journey has not been easy but God has truly blessed me along the way. The long hours and all the decisions that have to be made to keep everything running successfully can be draining. Through all the obstacles I have received lots of favor and I’m grateful! What’s most important about my brand is that my priority is the health of my clients hair and the happiness on their face when they look in the mirror at the completion of the services!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in Dallas! I love my city! I love to get a great hotel room downtown on a upper floor to enjoy the view! The Statler, Magnolia, Omni, and Townhose are great hotels for a staycation. Over Easy, Street Fine Chicken, Texas  De Brazil, Kitchen and Kocktails, & Eddie V’s are some of my favorites spots for great drinks and dining! Klyde warren park has a nice atmosphere with great vendors, the arboretum has beautiful flowers for viewing and great pics, klarity and khaos have a beautiful paint/sip from the reunion tower with an amazing view!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my children! My world revolves around them! They have kept me motivated to continue to push forward and excel in each level of my career. I am so thankful to my clients who shower me with love and appreciation! I would also like to recognize my friends and family for their continued support in my business and cheering me on along the way!
