We had the good fortune of connecting with North Point Drive and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi North Point Drive, why did you pursue a creative career?
From a very young age music has always influenced us from many different avenues of life: from church or just listening to the radio. As we got older we started to realize that it was our avenue, so we followed it with conviction. Now everybody is in their 30s and 40s and we still love it as much as we did the first day we ever touched our instruments or wrote our first song. There is something about music that touches your soul and creates connections between those in the band and our fans, which is an experience that is unique and powerful.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When we all first got together to start this band we decided we were not going to play what we thought everyone wanted, we were going to play what we felt in our hearts. There have been many obstacles along the road; the most difficult has been sticking to writing/performing original music when many local venues want cover/tribute groups. Our main goal is to figure out how to connect with the audience and be true and authentic with what we play. We’re very excited about our latest release, “Streets of LA” as we are hoping this will push us to the next level of success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When we have friends come into town, we usually like to take them down to two historical areas with difference vibes; Deep Ellum and the Ft. Worth Stockyards. Deep Ellum has been a music staple in the Dallas music scene for years. From blues to jazz, R&B, hip-hop, metal, and country there is something for everyone. The Ft. Worth Stockyard is a very tourist driven area that reminds one of being in the “old west” with many venues serving up good food and classic country tunes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout all of our musical careers there have been many influences from band teachers in school all the way to the popular local band playing around our town. Once things took off for us there were many managers, promoters, FM radio DJ’s, and magazines like Dallas Voyage. All of these individuals, groups, and organizations have played an important role in our ability to reach a wider audience and help us succeed in what we love.
