We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathia Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought behind The Brow Bar Beauty Co. came from the love I had for brows and wanting to share my talent by enhancing others natural beauty, and why not do it by focusing on the frame of the face. One thing I have learned throughout this journey is that brows will either make you or break you. The “Beauty” in the The Brow Bar “Beauty Co. come in with the waxing side of the business, full body waxing is a big part of what we do, because by waxing our goal is to boost people’s confidence by making them feel more comfortable in their own skin.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Brow Bar is a not only a Brow / Waxing Studio, The Brow Bar is a space where people can come wax & relax. It’s a space where we make others feel safe and at peace. Is like therapy but with a Brow Service, everyone is welcomed. I believe that is what sets us apart from the others. Hard work pays off, that’s one thing I will say.
My journey began from doing brows from my kitchen island in the apartment we used to live at back in 2020, to being able to open my “Home Based Studio” towards the end of 2020. In August of 2021 I was able to move into my first suite, fast forward to June 2022, I moved into my second suite, a much bigger space, I was terrified … it was 3x as big… The studio where I am at now, and little by little we have turned it into THE BROW BAR, a cozy place for everyone to enjoy.
This probably sounds easy, but it was hard to get here. There was plenty of times where I wanted to just give up, but I had a little one looking up to me, at that point I knew I couldn’t quit. At one point at the beginning of 2022, I worked at Amazon for a few months because I was stuck in a hole with no direction of what I wanted to do next…but one day I realized I didn’t want to work for anyone, I started The Brow Bar in the first place to be my own boss, work my own hours, and set my schedule around my family. It was then when I told myself to get it together and focus on what was important.
I shifted my point of view, and gave The Brow Bar my all. Little by little my books started filling up, I started showing up for what and who really mattered, being The Brow Bar and my clients that were making this possible.
In February of 2023, we hired our first waxer, Darby Ray, our one team member that has been growing along with us and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for her.
One thing I would like to say is that anything is possible, you just have to believe in yourself and make it happen.
A wise man I love and appreciate once told me…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Two of my favorite things I like to do in my free time are eating breakfast and having brunch. I would take them to “El Encanto Cafe” on Webb Chapel for a Cafe de Olla & their delicious green chilaquiles.
For a good time , I would love to take them to Frida’s Social! It’s always such a good time, either for brunch on a Sunday or a Friday/Saturday night for a good dance !
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Before we proceed I would like to shoutout my husband and business partner, Luis M. Yanez aka “Junior”, for being my rock along this journey and pushing me beyond my limits, for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Teamwork makes the dream work.
