We had the good fortune of connecting with Hawa Diallo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hawa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I grew up in a Guinean Fulani household (Fulani is a large tribe in Africa that spans over 18 countries), seeing my dad run multiple businesses and my mom owns her salon for years. This allowed me to have an open mind for entrepreneurism from a very young age. In the 7th grade, I started out selling candy and snacks to my classmates during lunch breaks; then in high school, I started selling native cultural bracelets that my dad brought from back home. I fell in love with being able to provide a service or product that brought satisfaction or joy to someone. It made me feel good. It led me to my current entrepreneurial venture, HD Aesthetiks. My inspiration behind starting HD Aesthetiks is to create a business that helps people build confidence and feel comfortable in their skin. A space where my clients can unwind and promote self-care through body services such as body contouring and teeth whitening.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I grew up with the “Hustle” mentality, which pushed me to pursue many things which led me here today. Moving out to Dallas, I had no idea what I was initially getting myself into; I now honestly feel like it is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life! With HD Aesthetiks, I want to share a new feel with the community by incorporating my NYC spunk with the undeniable Dallas vibe.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend is in town for a week! A time will be had, okay! Even though I’m fairly new in Dallas, I’m eager to discover all it has to offer. First, we would need brunch because who doesn’t LOVE a good brunch spot?! We would either stay local in Deep Ellum, go to Ebb & Flow or Electric Shuffle, or try somewhere new in Lower Greenville. I would also highly recommend Breadwinners: hands down, it is some of the best Chicken & Waffles I’ve had yet.
I’m all for VIBES: the next place we would try is a cute lounge to enjoy great music, drinks and to meet new people or chill poolside. I’ve always been a big fan of Afrobeats: we would go to Ekko Lounge or Fusion Vibes in Richardson for some West African cuisine and vibes. Now if we want to change scenery, we would head to a rooftop like Harlowe.
I’ve recently also been more into physical fitness because it helps with my overall mood and helps clear my mind; we would do a couple of fitness activities like a workout class or hiking the Katy Trail.
There are a few pages on TikTok and Instagram that I like to find fun, cute activities to do: candle making, wine tasting, or a fun karaoke/game night. During the week, we’ll most likely be in the house relaxing on the couch with our favorite bottle of Rosé and catching up on shows/movies.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, I would be a liar if I sat here and told you that there’s just one person I want to give credit to while on this journey. I want to shout out my village of “Framily” (friends and family). I have a small circle of people I rely on, who helps and guides me, and I really love and appreciate them so much for providing that space! All of the support does not go unnoticed!
