We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken Nwankwo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ken, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My wife and I have a heart for people. Our thought process behind opening our own private dental office was to create and cultivate an atmosphere of restoration, belonging and care between team and patient family with full freedom. We believe everyone deserves to see themselves with health self-esteem and a part of that is with a confident smile. This was the inspiration for our name, ConfiDent Smile Studio.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
ConfiDent Smile Studio is not just an office but a culture. Our office vision is create confident smiles, cultivate confident people. These are more than words to us. We see people not treat them. There are spaces in any industry where it is easy to miss this but my wife and business partner, Dr. Leslie Powell, made it a point to establish a purpose-centric , people- centric practice. We most excited about joining people on their Smile Journey and not just restore smiles but lives as they are empowered to step into their greater.

We got to where we are today by casting visions, planning and putting a date on it. After we completed our residencies, we set opening up in motion and got connected to other dentist and organizations that could offer advisory and guidance. The journey has had its ups and downs but it is all blessed for sure. As we are 6 months in, we are making more pivots to so we can continue to grow in healthy ways. We overcame challenges through having a strong spiritual foundation, community, resolve and discipline in vision.

As for lessons, ask for help as you need it. Don’t aim to reinvent the wheel when you just want to drive so asking how others have done things will better inform what you do next. Always make decisions with wisdom, intentionality and discipline rather than worry and desperation. Follow your intuition, it is often right. Growing a business takes time so have self grace and self discipline for the journey. If you need to make an adjustment, don’t want to do it. Stay connected to community and grounded. There are so many but these are paramount to us.

We invite the world to know that we are a husband and wife team that is aiming to restore societal confidence in dentistry one person at a time. We want them to know that we want collaborate with whomever to make that happen in office and in the community. We simply love what we do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas has so much to do since it has a myriad of suburbs that have their own flavor. One can check out the restaurants and shopping in Uptown, Park Ln, and North Park. One can go to Grand Prairie for some hiking. If you want to go a drive -in movie, head out to Ennis. Plano and Frisco have some really great spaces for entertainment that can meet everyones desires. Fort Worth has whole different feel, being more cowboy and rustic. There I would invite people to check out the Stockyards and take in the atmosphere. Food spots are all around DFW!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our story is full of great people , organizations and spaces that would be too long to list. However, we would like to first thank God Almighty for the opportunity to even do what we do. We would like to thank our immediate family whose support and encouragement has been paramount in our movement forward. Our church family, Shoreline City, has been wonderful in joining our patient community as well as referring patients to our office. We would like to thank every dental educator, dental mentor, and various organizations like the TDA, DCDS and Ideal Practices that have been like family to us through various sessions of our story to ownership. The above list is not exhaustive by any mean and we gives thanks to everyone who believes is what we are doing and aiming to do; positively shifting the paradigm of Dentistry.
