We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve been working since I was 14. I’ve jumped from fast food jobs to summer camps and everything else in between. It wasn’t until I picked up a camera for the first time that I finally start doing some thing I really loved. after I started getting better and better, I thought I should probably stop doing this for free. But the real cool thing about photography, it’s way more than just taking cool pictures. It’s about problem-solving in the moment, getting your angles just perfect, making sure the lighting looks good, working in harsh environments where your situation is not ideal, but you’re still getting a good picture out of it. there’s so much that goes into it and it keeps you on your toes. There’s probably another job out there where I can get paid a lot more to do way less work. But at the end of the day, I can look back on my work, and know I did a good job, and that’s all I need.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography is a lot more than just taking cool pictures. It’s all about capturing memories. Whether it’s an engagement, college graduation, family pictures, these are all memories that my clients will look back on in 20 years with a smile on their face. This is why when I meet with clients, I like to hear their story before I even talk about money. Stories and memories are going to last way longer than my pictures well, but my pictures can preserve those stories and memories just a little bit longer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There really is no other city like Dallas. I have so many favorite spots to take pictures, to get drinks, or even just to sit with my thoughts. But if I had to show somebody around and give them the proper Dallas experience, there’s no other place to start in the Katy Trail icehouse for a couple drinks. then after that, probably go catch the stars game then I drive through downtown to see the most beautiful skyline in Texas.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanna shout out all my friends that supported me and gave me opportunities. I wouldn’t be here without them.
