We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylin Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Choosing a creative career, for me, stems from a deep passion for seeing the world in new and unique ways. This passion led me to pursue a career in filmmaking. Through the creative process of filmmaking, I’m able to find innovative solutions to problems, whether it’s finding the perfect shot or conveying a message in a visually compelling way. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is the ability to connect with people on a deeper level, while using my creativity to help tell their stories. Without creativity, my career would only be work, and I’m grateful I can pursue a career which allows me to explore and share things from my perspective.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a video company that captures moments for clients and presents those moments through video editing. While there are tons of video production companies out there, I take pride in my attention to detail, focusing not only on my craft, but on my client’s results. By taking the time to understand the business impacts my clients can achieve through video, I am able to deliver videos that meet their needs and exceed their expectations.
I found an interest in filmmaking towards the end of high school, and studied filmmaking at Arizona State University. During that time, I learned the art of storytelling, the technical skill set needed to make videos, and the importance of networking and relationship building. Through my experiences, I have come to realize the importance of being open to new ideas and perspectives, as well as the value of learning from failure. I have learned not to let fear hold me back from trying new things and approaching challenges from different angles. Instead, I embrace the opportunity to learn and grow from my mistakes, recognizing that failure is often a necessary step on the path to success. My journey so far has included many successes and setbacks, but I’ve relentlessly pursued a path forward. I’ve learned to embrace the messy art of creating as well as the messy art of life. We are all works in progress, constantly refining who we are, what we do, and what we believe. With each new project, I strive to push myself further and to create work that is meaningful and impactful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Fort Worth is such a cool place and is by far my favorite city I’ve ever lived in. There’s so much to do and see in this big city, yet it still has a small town vibe. My perfect itinerary for showing Fort Worth off would start at the Botanical Gardens. It’s mind-blowing how much there is to see there, and you definitely need a full day to see the 110+ acres of beautiful plants. The Trinity Trials would also be at the top of my list. Every Saturday morning they have a farmers market at the trailhead and there are so many wonderful vendors with amazing food & beverages.
Speaking of food and beverages, my favorite coffee shop is Fort Worth Coffee Co. and my favorite place to grab food is Taco Heads. The atmosphere at both locations is casual and laid-back, which matches the vibe of the city.
If any indie or alternative music artist are in town, they’ll probably be playing at Lola’s Saloon, which is another one of my favorite spots.
There are so many more great finds in Fort Worth, but I’ll save those for another time!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
While there are so many people in my life I could shoutout for helping me get to where I am today, special recognition has to go to my mom and my wonderful wife.
My mom (Dawn Kufeld) has always believed in me, and encouraged me throughout my life to embrace my creativity. From helping me build crazy contraptions as a kid, to picking me up from theater in high school, she has always motivated me to chase my dreams.
My wife (Syndi Nelson) has also been instrumental in where I am at today. She and I met when she needed to contract out a videographer. Not only did she see what I could do creatively, but she also saw my heart. Each and every day we have together, she helps me learn more about myself and wholeheartedly believes in me.
I love both my mom and my wife so incredibly much and owe them many thanks!
