We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorena Cavanaugh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorena, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I consider myself as an individual with a great deal of creativity, boldness and sociability, Like many others who have ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, I am a firm believer of hard work and pursing something that one is passionate about, even if the fear of failure. In order to prove to myself that I could accomplish my dreams, I challenged myself to sit down and draft a plan of action. I re-read, then sough feedback from close friends and family, and even donated my work to gain additional insights. I reach and learn from online resources such as YouTube, I am now steadily working towards achieving my objectives and looking forward gaining amazing clients that may become friends too!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am thrilled by the prospect of creating stunning balloon decorations, floral gift sets, bouquets, and arrangements that will captivate audiences at any event. My entrepreneurial journey has been a testament to my unwavering commitment to growth and persistence in the face of challenges, setbacks, and naysayers. Despite encountering numerous obstacles, I remained resolute in my pursuit of success, tirelessly dedicating myself to my craft. I am constantly seeking opportunities to expand my skillset and network, recognizing that failure and mistakes are inevitable but valuable opportunities for growth and learning. Writing has been a helpful tool in my journey, as I document both positive and negative feedback to continually improve my offerings. I remind myself to keep pushing forward and never give up on my dreams, even when the journey is difficult, because the destination is truly worth it.

At present, I am fully committed to my role as a home-based florist for my community, with aspirations to expand further. What sets me apart and defines my unique value proposition? I pride myself on being a highly empathetic and compassionate individual, not solely focused on crafting aesthetically pleasing floral arrangements, but also committed to providing candid and beneficial advice to my clients. I strive to offer not just a visually stunning bouquet but also a positive and compassionate experience to those I serve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I find every location to be both beautiful and enjoyable. I possess an appreciation for all types of experiences, whether it be a leisurely stroll in the city, an invigorating hike, or a peaceful kayak ride. I delight in the captivating sights and sounds of Dallas, as well as the delectable cuisine and inviting ambience found in any town. Above all, I know how to have a good time. To kick off my day, I would seek out a superb breakfast spot near my town. Next, I would venture into the heart of downtown Dallas to explore the vast array of options available and savor each moment of my adventure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I gained the courage and motivation to become a small business owner through my supportive family, my desire to learn, and my patience. Additionally, I found inspiration from an influencer who encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Radhi Devlukia-shetty & observing my friends’ successful ventures. (Cristina, IG: Velalashandbeauty, very caring and strong woman & Nadia IG: Nleeimages, who is an amazing photographer in Dallas, Tx) Through this, I acquired the drive to learn and succeed as a small business owner.
