We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Cullen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I took a risk in 2019 when I stepped away from working in a conventional gym environment and opened my own home gym. I noticed many people wanted to incorporate fitness and wellness into their life but they were intimated by a gym environment, didn’t want to pay for a gym membership, and / or didn’t know what to do at the gym on their own. I took the chance opening my own home gym and became busier than ever! People loved the personal feel and attention.

When Covid hit Canada I again had to take a risk and move my business online as we spent the better part of 2 years in lockdown. In person training moved to live online group & personal sessions. I also created my online platform, SWEAT. This was super scary at the time but a blessing in the end!

In 2022 we decided Texas living was a better fit for our family with many long term opportunities for our 3 boys. We made the big move from Canada to Prosper and I started my LLC here! The risk I had taken in moving my business online in Canada gave me the ability to easily transition to Texas and keep my clientele. I also have started traveling for In Home Personal Training in the North Dallas area, and I became Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certified in winter 2023. My next big venture will be offering in home training again at my home gym …. But now in Texas!

That very first risk I took in moving away from working in a gym and establishing Alyssa Cullen Fit & Well has been well worth it and helped me smoothly transition from Canada to Texas!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I know how much of a role fitness and wellness plays not only into our physical health but our mental and emotional well being as well. I pride myself on personalizing everything I do and getting to know my clients (I like to call them my “team”) so that I can help them reach their goals, feel their best and live their strongest, healthiest, happiest life.

We have lived all over the US, in Canada and Europe and that has allowed me to meet so many different people and learn from so many different cultures. I have learned how to be adaptable and adjust to change and manage stress …. That helps me so much in helping others through tough times! The only constant is change and we have to learn how to live and thrive through that change!

It wasn’t a smooth and easy road and I am rebuilding again here in Texas but one thing I have learned over the years is the power of hard work, positivity and prayer.

I just love what I do and it’s the best feeling when I hear my clients say they are living and loving their healthiest life since they started working with me.

AND they can work with me anywhere!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I am new to Dallas / Fort Worth area I feel like each new place I go to is like a mini adventure! I have lots of friends planning to visit and our itinerary would include a trip to the stockyards in Fort Worth (I think it is the coolest here!), to the Star for a little taste of the Cowboys experience, shopping & a nice dinner at Haywire in Legacy West. (Boots at Tecovas!) Depending on the season – either a Dallas Stars game (I’m a northeastern girl, love hockey!) or a Rangers ball game. Austin for some nightlife of dancing and dinner would be on the list too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my family …. My husband has been my biggest supporter from day one. We married out of college and I put my work goals on hold while he pursued his dream of playing professional hockey. I was a full time mom over those years … wouldn’t trade it for a second, but I was always itching for something more. He supported me through my studies and when I told him I wanted to convert our entire basement into a gym and start my own business, he helped me make it happen. My boys and my husband never complained about clients coming into and out of our house for training … they helped their non tech savvy mom navigate moving online and so much more. They’ve been my biggest cheerleaders and I couldn’t have done it without them.
