We had the good fortune of connecting with Cara Grayson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cara, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think about risks, I tend to get a bit of anxiety at first. Which is so ironic because I’ve taken a lot of risks in my life. I took a risk and moved to Texas from Arkansas at 18 for college. I took a risk when starting my modeling career! But that’s the thing, I look back on the risks that I have taken and I remember that my Faith kept me during those moments! I would not have a modeling career if it wasn’t for me taking the risk and auditioning for my very first fashion show in 2015. I’ve been blessed to have many doors open in my life and career because of it!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a freelance Fashion Model located here in Dallas, Texas! I believe what sets me apart is my kind hearted spirit to treat everyone involved as an important part of the project. From the makeup artist, stylist, interns, stagehand, etc. Everyone is valuable and I pride myself on showing them the upmost respect. I am proud of my ability to adapt to the scenarios that I am in. I am a team player who wants the vision of everyone involved to come to fruition.
I’ve enjoyed fashion my entire life! I received the nickname, “Lil Tyra” as a kid because of my love for America’s Next Top Model. I began modeling in 2015, when my aunt suggested that I audition for Little Rock Fashion Week in my hometown, Little Rock, Arkansas. From there, I was selected to be in the show and I was asked to sign my first modeling contract with the agency sponsoring the show! Starting my career with an agency was a blessing! From that point forward I did fashion shows, tv and radio segments, editorial shoots, hosting, and judging! In 2018, I became freelance model in Dallas, Texas. Freelance is a lot more challenging because you are finding the work yourself. I was able to take the knowledge that I gained from being previously signed to an agency to chose opportunities more wisely. More blessings came my way! I’ve modeled in NYFW, music videos, and work with some dope brands and photographers!
Throughout my career, I’ve learned to stay true to my Faith and values. No one should ever compromise who they are to please someone else. Be you, loud and proud! I want the world to know that my career didn’t come over night and I still have many goals that I have yet to achieve. Take those risk, be confident in your skillset, and strive to always leave great first impression!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The city has so many dope places! Food and fun are a must when showing someone a good time. Delicious food spots are Lexy’s and Rudy’s Chicken (A MUST) in Dallas, and Legacy Hall in Plano, they have a great variety. For entertainment, you have to go to The Star in Frisco, The Dallas World Aquarium, because I LOVE animals, and Deep Ellum! You have to attend a least one Dallas Mavericks game and don’t forget the State Fair if it’s fair season!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to first dedicate my shoutout to my friends and family. I started my modeling career in 2015 and they have supported me every step of the way. My parents drove me all around the US for open calls, fashion shows, photoshoots, etc. I’ve had friends and family drive hours to come to a show to support! Family members who have used their own talents to mentor me and share opportunities with me such as Mackenzie Tyra Clark. The love I received from them is whole heartily a blessing.
Thank you to my very first agent, Brandon Campbell, for believing in me and opening doors for my career!
I also want to thank the Coco Rocha Model Camp! I am a CRMC 95 alumna and the training and knowledge that I received there is incomparable! Thank you, Coco, the CRMC family, and my fellow CRMC alumni!
