We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Nicholson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
From the start it didn’t seem as if I was starting my own business. I was just doing something I loved to do which is film and photography. Once I started to enhance my skills business really came to me and took off from there. When I realized my brand would be a very intricate part in producing for big clients I realized I had to do some business planning like create my website, logo, pricing, and finding clients that would work with my brand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Through my work I’ve always tried to create something that was unique and displayed my vision of the world. With the industry being so oversaturated with millions of content creators, it must be a priority to create a unique style to your work. I’ve learned many of my skills watching endless hours of youtube videos as well attending the 2019 TripLit Conference in Vancouver, BC. I’m currently entering my third year as the content creator at Stephen F. Austin State University for both the athletic and executive departments. In addition, I filmed, edited, and co-directed my first official music video “Fifty Shades of Red” by Derryl Perry in the summer of 2019. I believe if you have a passion for something you can make it happen without any formal training. Hard work, determination, and confidence in yourself will allow you to overcome a lot of obstacles. The advice I would offer to someone trying to start a business is to find out what you love to do. I believe the happiest people in the world make a living doing what they love.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If I was planning a week long vacation for my best friend starting on Sunday I would start out by going to St. Patricks Cathedral in downtown Fort Worth. Then we would head out to west 7th and grab a bite to eat at Mash’d. Later that evening we would walk around downtown Fort Worth and Sundance Square checking out all the shops and scenery. Monday would be an all day adventure at the Fort Worth Zoo which has been ranked as the #1 zoo in the United States by USA Today. After the zoo we would go have dinner at Mi Cocina in downtown Fort Worth for some of the best Mexican food around. Tuesday morning we would drive to Summer Moon Coffee in Keller and catch up on the latest social media. That evening we would head over to Top Golf for some friendly competition as well as food and drinks. Wednesday we would explore downtown Dallas and see everything the city has to offer starting with lunch at Americano for what I believe to have the best pizza in DFW. After lunch we would drive around town and head to Reunion Tower for an amazing skyline view of the city. On Thursday we would start the day with a great workout at LifeTime Athletics in North Ft Worth. Later that afternoon we would head to Southlake Town Center and do some shopping and sight seeing…finishing with dinner at Truluck’s. Friday we would start the day with a hike at Eagle Mountain Lake Park and catch up on all that’s happening in our lives while enjoying the natural environment and its inhabitants. Later we would go to the Ft Worth Stockyards and checkout the cool shops, museums, and have dinner at Lonesome Dove. That night we would celebrate at Billy Bob’s with some live country music and a rodeo. On Saturday depending on the time of year we would catch a ballgame at the new Globe Life Park or AT&T stadium. Since it is our last night we could go to no other than Del Friscos Double Eagles Steakhouse in downtown Fort Worth for the best steaks in the country as well as an unmatched dining experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a shoutout to my family who have supported me through this journey and bought me my first camera for Christmas in 2017. Also Sam Kolder was one of my biggest inspirations when I started my film career and without him I may have never had the confidence to chase my dream as a content creator.
