We had the good fortune of connecting with Nafeesa Spann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nafeesa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was for freedom and also to bring a big recognition in the industry because it’s not appreciated as much as it needs to be. Having my own business feels amazing and it makes me strive for more as being an entrepreneur. It’s like I feel that only one thing is not enough.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is very unique and speaks for itself. The focus of my work is intrigued by the detail of what I portrait. The details in my work shows volume and help structure the image of what needs to be shown. When creating the pieces, I would like for people to see what I see and more. I believe my style of work sets me apart from others because how I paint and the form I use. Right now I’m excited about working with an author that writes children books and I was recently given the opportunity to create scenes and characters for the current and upcoming books. This is going to be fun. To get to where I am now professionally took a lot of patience, grinding and pushing everyday. Entrepreneurship is not easy. You have to be very consistent in what you do. Everyday is a new task and it won’t always be on the upside. You have to go for what you want and also speak it into existence like if it happened already the year prior. One thing about me is that i love a challenge but challenges teach you how to overcome whatever lesson hasn’t been taught to you already.
Lessons I learned along the way are to always be yourself but also who you want to be, speak it as if you are already this person.
I want the world to know that Gallifee has a mission to complete and that we won’t stop after one because there is so much more the world needs to see through this art. Gallifee would like to show true history from the past and what we are making now. This will be a true legacy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots to hang out here in Charlotte is Noda which is really big on the art district. They always have fun events going on usually all year long. They have awesome open mics and comedian stand up events. The local restaurants are really good especially when you want to try something new. Noda is Charlottes historic arts and entertainment district. It’s like a home to all walks of life. I also like going to the boardwalk near the University because of the restaurants and other fine dining that’s surrounded by it. Some places to check out are Cabo Fish Taco, Oh My Soul (vegan) Noda 101 , Smokey joes and neighborhood theater.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank a good friend of mines who name is Donald Wesley. There was a point in my life where I didn’t know where I was going or what to do. I didn’t know what path or road I should have been on. He helped me regain conscious of who I was and what I was here on this earth for. Next I want to thank my mom Ruqaiyah Conley for always being my main support through most of my struggles. There are some things I wouldn’t of had if I didn’t always have her moral support. The greatest mother of all time.
