Meet DJ GSmoove | DJ, Emcee, Promoter, DJ Instructor, & Flyer Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ GSmoove and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi GSmoove, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think about risk, the first thing I think about is: Will the reward outweigh the risk? Actually, nothing but high reward has come from my taking risk. I would say the role that it has played is perseverance in a way. I have found the closest thing to happiness in my life and my career by taking huge leaps of faith.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like what truly sets me apart from everyone else is I have realized that DJ’ing is my purpose, and I have found a way to make it work for me. The way I look at it, I’m genuine in every moment you catch me DJ’ing. Rather it’s a birthday party, back yard BBQ, a wedding, or a concert, I have learned how to individually connect with everyone in the room and give them exactly what their soul desires.
I’m mostly proud to see the huge risk I took bringing in rewards. I took the biggest risk I ever have by betting on myself and leaving my 9 to 5 to pursue a DJ career knowing I had no safety net. I’m starting to now see glimpses of how the future I set becoming a reality.
I got to where I am right now by networking. I have taken the time to shake hands with so many people out here. I learned very early you’ll hire someone you like faster than you will someone who is more qualified, so I continue to be genuine. I have also been the helping hand for other DJs and promoters who have wanted to start in the nightlife. Of course it wasn’t easy, but every journey has its own path. This DJ world is like a shark tank, and you learn pretty quickly in a shark tank it’s eat or be eaten. A few challenges I faced was having to have very tough skin in order to take criticism. Sometimes working for free, even having to learn the lesson of why contracts are needed.
I would like the world to know that if you have something you want to do, think less of the risk and more about the reward. You only get one life to live.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they flew in Monday, we would nine times out of ten go to my favorite lowkey brunch spot in North Dallas called “Mimi’s Star Cafe”. My friends all love the mall, so we would definitely hit the galleria, and then Northpark mall. Tuesday night, we would go over to GVO for cheap tacos and drink specials. Wednesday we will probably start the day off at my favorite chicken spot in Plano “What’s Cluckin” for some fire chicken wings, then that night hit bitter end for DJ Wire set. Thursday we would get fly as our closet will allow come and hit “Girls Love R&B” over at Mr. X. after Mr. X closes at 12 AM, we would hit Motion Thursdays over at the Playhouse. Friday would most definitely be a food day. For lunch, I will take them to Cheba hut for some fire subs. Then, a tour of downtown, the Margaret hunt hill bridge, as well as the fabrication yard then get a drink at the Statler Hotel so they can see the views. Then we would head back to deep ellum for some barbecue over at the Pecan Lodge. After eating and changing we would go to “KISS” for some grownup conversation and beautiful vibes. Then to end the night over to Izkina for R&B Fridays, then if they still have the energy, over to “5AM” next door.
Saturday I usually work brunch in a random spot around the city and that night I DJ at Kiss in the upstairs lounge, so they would more than likely be with me there for the night. Sunday would be used as a rest day and church if they arent gone by then.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to dedicate a huge portion of my encouragement to God. Without him I don’t know how I would’ve made it this far. Next, my mother. My mother has been speaking success into me my entire life. I also want to dedicate a lot of my encouragement from the huge DJ community in Dallas as well as my closest friends who continues to push me to be a better person and hold me accountable to be a better overall DJ.
