Meet Dora Tramel | Caterer/Private Chef/Food Delivery Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dora Tramel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dora, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My Granny used to say “Nothing beats a failure but a try!” I have always chosen to face my fears even if it would end in my crying tears of joy or sadness, Throughout my career as a chef I have worked in various hospitality fields and cuisines but I had to take risks and face my fears as being a chef that did not go to culinary school. I literally worked my way up from dishwasher to prep to line cook to Sous Chef as a black woman in Texas. Every job I took when I walked into that kitchen, I was scared of being looked at for who I am not what I do or how well I do it. But I would focus on doing my job to perfection, passionately and with a little music in the kitchen all my fears would disappear and I would feel like a warrior at the end of my day. Throughout my life I have had no choice but to face my fears and take risks no matter who valued my work, knowledge or opinion because honestly it all depends on God’s purpose for me so I am willing to walk with Him over all things and people to see His purpose for my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
DAT’s Good Egg Rolls is a food delivery concept, that takes family fun, addictive desserts, appetizers, meals and prepares them from my recipes with fresh ingredients and from scratch cooking then wraps them an egg roll wrapper and fries them to order with a one of my gourmet sauces. Currently this is the only food delivery business that provides these types of egg rolls. This concept is exciting to me because I get to be creative, think outside of the box. I created it as a fun part of my catering/private chef business, DAT’s Good Cooking that I hope to sell my products such as salsa, barbecue sauces, fruit purees and egg rolls through for retail and through third parties. Then going on to supply better meals for assisted living homes and schools. It is definitely not easy, having no location, working full-time while trying to build a business and pay your bills and sleep over 5 hours a day consistently is not easy at all. You miss a lot family wise, mental health wise, self care wise. I had to learn to feed all of those beasts positively even when negativity would surround me. I believe that what I’m creating today and have been creating will take care of my nieces and nephews for generations. That I will be able to share love by providing LOVE, meals and jobs all over the United States and Worldwide. I’m not here for just the money. I’m here for change and I want to be that change to show that extended hand with food in it that will make the next person smile no matter what they are going through.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
