We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexxi Haage and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexxi, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My pet sitting business allows people in my community that normally do not get to go on vacation, because of their pets/animals, to be able to actually go and enjoy themselves on vacation. Just about anyone who has pets understands that it is hard to leave them behind and have peace of mind that they will be taken care of the right way. No one should feel that they cannot leave their pets just to go and enjoy themselves for the weekend or even longer. Pet owners need their vacations and relaxation too.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I professionally pet sit, I am a photographer, and an artist on the side while I’m in college at the moment. Those are all things I can do for as long as I want to do and are flexible trades, even after I graduate and have my real job. Pet sitting is what I am most passionate about though. Animals have always been my biggest passion and all animals seem to love me. Around my hometown Paris, TX people often call me the cat whisperer because I will have cats walk right up to me that I have not even met yet. As well as, I can usually tell what an animal is thinking just by looking at it. These skills can set me apart from other pet sitters, but there are also other things I do for pet owners that make me different. I have clients that simply just need me to come over and let their pet(s) out in the middle of the day during lunch and play with them. I try to make the best of my visits with their pets and spend much needed quality time with them. From playing with them to get all their energy out to just sitting there with them, petting them, and talking to them. I even do not mind going the extra mile to take pets to the Vet when their owners are too busy or are away. Things happen that no one can account for or prevent from happening. It is just part of having animals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Paris, TX a must see is our Eiffel tower with the cowboy hat on top along with our beautiful Red River Valley Veterans Memorial Museum sitting right beside our tower at the Civic Center. On the other side of our Civics Center, we have a pump track, a starting point to the Trail de Paris, an outdoor basketball court, and baseball fields. There is always something going on there. Another high point in town is our historic downtown area. There is always something going on down there as well. The Culbertson fountain is right in the middle of our downtown for all to see and hang out at, along with benches and nice shade trees with beautiful lights hanging up everywhere. Our whole downtown area is full of great spots to take pictures. Most of the murals downtown have been repainted like our Dr. Pepper wall and a historical scene of the cotton industry, that I actually helped restore, by our Farmer’s Market and skate park. Downtown there are great places to eat like: 107, Rosewood Local Eatery, Crawford’s Hole in the Wall, Daq’z Crazy & Wing’z, and so many more. There are several boutiques down there and antique shops. Another place that I like to hang out at is Bywaters Park which is a memorial to the victims of one of Paris’ worst disasters, the 1982 tornado. During the summer Paris Municipal Band will play there and it is where we have our movie nights. During all of winter, our Paris Winter Wonderland is staged there as well. If downtown did not have enough shopping for you, our Paris Towne Center will! We have: Big Lots, Hobby Lobby, Belk, Tuesday Morning, Hibbett Sports, Rue 21, Catos, Shoe Dept., and we’re getting a TJ Maxx, plus many more stores. Last but certainly not least, a must try is Paris Coffee Co. Some of the most generous people you will meet work there, as well as the owner Steve Martin (lovingly known as Papa Coffee), is a gem.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom, dad, and fiancé for always believing in me and supporting me, no matter what I do. No matter what crazy mess I get them into they always help me in whatever way they can. I also cannot go without mentioning I’m thankful for all the love and support I get from the rest of my family, friends, and even people in my community whom I might not even know that well but yet still support me in my businesses.
