Meet Skye Gouge | Dog Groomer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Skye Gouge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skye, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Owning my own business has been something I’ve been ready for all my life, but grooming dogs was the best career I ever fell into. When I was being taught, the end goal was always to buy Lucky Dog Grooming in Austin, Tx, which was the salon in which I trained, so when I opened my salon in Arlington, Tx., it seemed fitting to call it Lucky Pup Grooming.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If your pup is anxious about getting groomed or bathed, I always tell my clients, “it’s ok, they have never met a pup like me!” I grew up around various types of animals from Yorkies and various large breed guard dogs to hundreds of birds my father raised. I even had a pet skunk! The various animal interaction throughout my life has made me adept at staying calm and listening to body language, and because of that, I can break through becoming a pup’s friend instead of someone making them do something. The biggest lessons I’ve learned over the years is to pay attention, adapt, and believe in yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would probably hit up Urban’s Tattoo Studio for matching best friends tattoos, The next day, I would take him to my favorite brewery, Martin House. One day we would go to the movies and lastly, we would spend a day cooking food like ribs or brisket while we do tye dye.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m grateful to so many people and companies that came together to create Lucky Pup Grooming; Best Dressed Dog and Lucky Dog Grooming, without them I may never have gotten into the industry.
All Paws Grooming for being the salon that over the years feels like home.
PetSmart Lincoln Square, where I refined my skills.
Meraki Financial, the bookkeeping service that is always there for advice when needed.
Sanford Oaks Animal clinic for trusting me with their clientele.
Mooshu my shih tzu, mascot, and employee of the year.
My wonderful pack that I groom and their amazing guardians that trust me to do so.
And finally, everyone who came together to make Lucky Pup Grooming a reality either through financial means or advice.
