We had the good fortune of connecting with Janelle Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well the main reason I started my business was because of my daughter. I had just given birth to her and couldn’t imagine leaving her side to go work somewhere. So I decided why not start a baking business? I can be at home with her and still be able to make money at the same time. So my husband and I agreed to start up the business and it took off from there.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d like to think everyone and every business is unique in their own way. Even if they have the same business. I’d like to think my business sets me apart from other baking businesses because everything I make is from scratch and I love to incorporate new flavors and new ideas to my menu. Also I like running specials for those families that want to make their kids parties but can’t afford paying these outrageous prices some people are asking for.
The thing that makes me excited most about my business, is when customers receive their orders and they fall absolutely in love with it! It makes me happy knowing the customer is happy!
I honestly got to where I am today with the support of my husband and all the customers that refer me to other people.
It has definitely NOT been a easy road with my business mainly because you can’t please everyone. An order can be absolutely perfect and someone will still try to ask for their money back just because you’re a small business. But it’s things like that, that pushes you to do better and be better as a business owner.
I would love for everyone to know that if you’re starting a business…don’t stop! Don’t end that chapter just because you don’t have the clientele or support right away. It’s something very challenging to get into but keep pushing! I started from the bottom just like everyone else and I keep bettering my self everyday!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to some of my small business friends to try out their food! Nubias Drive-Thru, Smokin Dawgz BBQ, PincheSmokerz, Birria Plug, Elys Micheladas y mas, Cherry’s Seafood, Vals Seafood, Luckys Tacos and Don Chicharron! Drinks I would take them to Twisted Novaritas or Lokito Cokito. And if she would like to get beautified while she’s here I would definitely take her to the OMG Lash Studio!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give a big shout-out to my Husband Eric. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today with my business. He has helped me so much from the start. He would do late night and early runs to the store when I was too busy to, make deliveries, became my taste tester for new ideas I was trying out, etc! He has been my #1 supporter and I love him to death for that. Nobody deserves credit more than him.
