We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started my business “on accident” with a Facebook post asking people if they wanted to try a sample of my Elderberry Syrup. At the time, it was a natural remedy I found that kept my family healthy and out of the doctor’s office. The response I got from the Facebook post encouraged me to start selling my Elderberry Syrup out of my home kitchen. Every week I had more and more customers interested in purchasing that I soon could not keep up with the demand. So many customers told me that my syrup kept their kids healthy and in school so they would share the news with their friends who would come to me looking for the same help.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is The Elderberry Co. We exist to empower families with a natural and effective way to support their immune systems. Elderberry is a natural fruit that is high in antioxidants and known to support our immune systems. While we have a line of products that use the power of elderberries, our Elderberry Syrup is what sets us apart because we make it fresh every week in our shop. It is hand crafted and small batch, a blend of berries, spices and raw honey. The elderberry syrups at the store are often loaded with preservatives and sugars which weaken our immune system. Our syrup is fresh and delicious and what most customers know us for. I have no background in business and most of my journey in starting and growing this business has been lessons learned as I go. I am really passionate about empowering other women to not be afraid to do new things and accomplish their goals and dreams!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My team! While I started this business by myself, I soon learned that if I wanted to grow successfully, I needed a team of people around me. I now have a team that runs my kitchen and store, as well as a team that helps me grow with marketing and design. They all happen to be women and these ladies are the reason we are so successful. They make coming to work an absolute JOY 🙂
