Meet Hunter Thomas Mounce | Country Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunter Thomas Mounce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hunter Thomas, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Being a country artist is a huge gamble. It’s one of the only businesses/careers you chase where there is absolutely no certainty if you’ll ever see any significant return on investment. But, it takes a lot of money, and it takes a bit of naivete to keep pushing forward, and that’s what you have to do in order to give yourself a chance.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Neo-traditional country artist. This means that I wish to preserve many traditions that exist in country music, such as the strong story-telling element, and some traditional country instrumentation, all while having a fresh unique sound! I’d say I’ve gotten to where I am today by jumping at every opportunity that comes my way, even if it makes me uncomfortable. For example, moving to Nashville. I got the opportunity to take a job there in 2016, and though it was the scariest decision I’ve ever had to make, I chose to make the move. Nothing about this journey has been easy. I’m constantly failing and learning new things so that hopefully I’ll be better the next time around. An example is releasing music. Right now, every time I release a single, I analyze what I did well and also the things I could’ve done better. Each release is a totally new and unique experience because of the knowledge I am gaining. Every challenge in my career has been overcome in that way. You have to fail and learn from it. And it sounds cliche, but the one thing worse than failing is to not try at all. So, you have to really set your ego aside and realize not everything is going to be perfect like you wish it could be. I hope that when people see me, and they see my brand, that they feel the authenticity. Again, I’m not perfect. So, for better or worse, when you hear my music, and you see my brand, you’re getting the real me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Nashville, TN. There are so many fun things to do here! Here are a few of my favorites: 1. Robert’s Western World – This is one of the oldest bars on Broadway in Nashville. It has been a steel guitar shop, a western wear storefront, and a bar with a jukebox only selling beer and cigarettes. But now, it is the home of traditional country music. You can still get a Fried Bologna Sandwich, a beer, and a bag of chips all for $5. You can also enjoy the best live musicians Nashville has to offer!
2. Peg Leg Porker – This barbecue joint in the Gulch has dry-rub ribs that are to die for. Make sure you get there early though, the line wraps around the building if you wait too long!
3. Live Oak – This bar is the home of the best songwriter rounds in Nashville. With perfect sound and lighting, a relaxing atmosphere, and cheap drinks, this may be my favorite bar in town.
4. Jack Daniels Tour – If you have some time to kill one day, drive to Lynchburg, TN. It is a couple hours away, but the Jack Daniels Tour is nothing short of amazing, and it is incredibly rich with history. You feel as if you’ve been there since the beginning of the whole operation!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom and dad Darla and Carl Mounce. They have always supported in me in whatever I choose to do, and they still support me even though I live 8 hours away now!
