Meet Chef Marc Newton | Alchemist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Marc Newton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef Marc, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think work-life balance is a myth; I don’t understand the concept. Ask any successful person you admire or read about, and you can quickly learn that balance is lacking in their journey. Success at anything requires three fundamental things: consistency, discipline, and sacrifice, none of which promote balance in life. The idea of being able to balance and win doesn’t work in reality; something always takes a back seat. But as I’ve matured I’ve learned to prioritize what is needed vs. what is wanted. If my body tells me I need to rest, all bets are immediately off, and I rest; that wasn’t always the case. If I sign on to an event or commitment, that’s what I’m doing, and a special occasion or feelings will likely be sacrificed. After 17 years in the business that’s how it is, and it’s not popular sometimes but I’m unapologetic about it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Newton’s Southern Comfort Food has an exciting backstory. I spent years as a chef in CA working on the food scene with everyone from Bon Appétit, Visa, corporate dining to stadiums and arenas. In 2015 we created Newton’s Sassy Sauce™️as a dipping sauce for my menu at the Golden State Warriors games. After years of requests, we decided to market our hot sauce but wanted to do it at home, which, for me is the South. So, in 2021, we (the squad) launched Newton’s Sassy Sauce™️ in DFW and AR.
Newton’s Sassy Sauce™️ is a sweet-heat hot sauce that provides good flavor without being blow your head off hot. We spent 6yrs making a sauce that we are proud of, and our claim to fame is its V-GF-Low sugar-Low Sodium-No Artificial Flavors or Preservatives but still tastes d*mn good. The sauce is handcrafted from start to finish and produced in small batch runs. Newton’s partners with local retailers, markets, restaurants, stadiums, and arenas that share our high-quality standards and support independent brands. No distributors, no brokers, no reps, just a small team doing the thing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When we have people visit, we take them to all of our spots! As a culinary team, we are die-hard foodies so let’s get into it. Start the morning with breakfast, culture, and a good cause at Bonton Farms in South Dallas. Then, we’re heading to the Dallas Farmers Market to stroll, snack, and support other small businesses.
Since we’re close by, we’ll grab a seat at the counter of Rex’s Seafood for fresh-shucked oysters and beers.
And, of course, I’ll have a meeting or three, so I’ll stop by Wax Space in Oak Cliff to chat with partners.
We’ll visit a couple of retail stores locations to check shleves and make sure the product is looking good.
I got to work in bible study with at the Potter’s House for our sanity the rest of the week.
Now we’re gearing up for a busy weekend, starting with a night market or two.
A good night’s sleep, and we’re up early to grab a breakfast sandwich from O’Brien Bros Baking in Denton – crazy good!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shout-out is dedicated to THE NEWTON’S SQUAD! I’m the person being interviewed which is cool, but Newton’s Sassy Sauce™️ is powered by myself, Chelsea Newton and Rod Newton. Definitely need to give Carolyn Mims her flowers and respect to the day 1’s: 224 Crew, Chef Telly, Chef Sammy, Chef Nick, and AJ. Real talk, Newton’s is a family brand with a rich history of resilience and success, starting with my grandmother Boyce who taught me how to build a community through good food.
