We had the good fortune of connecting with Janirhar Scotland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janirhar, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
So I began to look at the US for what it was and not what I wanted to believe it was. It’s a capitalist society created by my people oppressors. Coming from the Caribbean trade and barter is still a thing and that’s how many earn their success if not employed by someone. In the States it’s about supply and demand and success often only come a to those who serve a definite need. With that being said I identified the need I wanted to fill and developed my business to do just that. With my passion for dance and mental health I plan to offer my business as a service to others working towards the greater good. If you know me you know I’m all about Jesus and living for the greater good.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a full time mental health specialist and part time dance instructor unlike most instructors I incorporate faith and mental health awareness into my classes and when working with the clients I serve I utilize evidenced based practices to help transform my clients at risk behaviors. In America we have some of the highest rates of depression, anxiety, suicide and experiences of abuse and neglect. My goal is to ensure those I encounter are introduced to a nurturing lifestyle that promotes a positive mindset in everyone I engage to help combat the perpetuation of our at risk behaviors as a society.

I think getting to this place in life took me having to spend a lot of time with myself and God figuring out my purpose and how I really did not want to be a waste of life giving nothing back to the world yet taking all it has to offer. This process was not easy but it also wasn’t really hard. It just took a lot of patience and education in my fields and commitment to my why. I think a lot of people forget their genuine “why” and end up deviating from the original plan. It’s hard to be a positive influence in this day and age but my goal is to uptime impact the world.

An important lesson that has stuck with me this far is that you can accomplish anything as long as you do the work. You can’t want something bad but it’s not just going to fall into your lap if you don’t do the work. Starting my llc did not happen over night and stability in life takes having the correct mindset. I also learned that being honest with yourself and others will save you a lot of wasted time and efforts. I’ve had unrealistic expectations about many of my endeavors which has cost me lots of time and funds.

What I want people to know about my brand and story is that I have overcome many battles having spent most of my adolescence in foster care due to abuse and neglect and progressing through many traumas my business goal is to help those like me beat the odds and achieve success in life. My llc is F.L.L.U.I.I.D. It’s an acronym for faith, love, leadership, unity, intelligence, integrity and dynamics. I believe these 7 concepts and teaching them to others will ultimately help our communities to become more positive in due time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So as a Caribbean I love being engulfed in my culture. I would take my best friend to heroes lounge for a good time dancing to Caribbean American music drinks and food. I would take them to cedar ridge preserve for a good hiking and nature experience. I would also take them to The Freeman in Deep Ellum to support the live bands and artists that perform. One thing about me is that I love anything aesthetically pleasing. We’d also check out a few dance classes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to Jabbarri we met when I initially began teaching choreography and he has been a shining star in my life since.
