We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Shankle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexis, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was challenging in a way only because, I had so much to lose or gain. What I mean by lose is that, I have my family, my home and my future business depending on me to be successful. When starting your own business you have so much to put on the line because, it’s your job, your place of employment and your only income. What I meant by gain is that, it will all workout. I can go far with this, this will be the job I love to do and the job that will make me successful for not just me personally or my business but for my household. I had the faith that God installed in me and I went for it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What set me apart from others is that, I’m humble. God is the head of my business, I do everything with the passion of love not money. I always say, “if you cant do it for free then its not meant for you”. What I mean by that is, if everything you is for the love of money then it isn’t for you. It isn’t your passion, your gift! I’m most proud about my business growing being that my clients have turned into family and I appreciate how far they have brought me because, it wasn’t just me. My business is what it is because, of my clients. I’m excited about growing more and bettering my craft. My business is where it is as i stated before because, of my clients. I know me being trustworthy, honest and full of good energy plays a big part but if it wasn’t from their support Blessed Lashes would just be a name not a business. Having a business is not easy at all. I wish it was honestly. You have so much to do, so much to give and so much to lose. You literally have to stay focused and prayed up. I ask God to guide me through it all and I definitely will always give that advice to anyone. I’ve learned that having a business, you have to put it first. You have to let people know that your business matters! This is your only income and a business you except to grow in the future even day by day. So, if you don’t take your business serious then no one will. I want the world to know that Blessed Lashes is just getting started. I been sleeping on myself. I know I’m worth way more and can go way harder and I am and I will! I’m ready to better my craft daily and be open to learn more. I will remain humble and keep God first!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m so chill and easy going that going to a nice restaurant with good food, drinks and of course great people is always a win for me. My favorite restaurant if I were to start off a good girls weekend would be, Benihana’s in DFW of course. I love the food the drinks the people you go with and eventually the ones you meet there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, I would love to shout my sister out. Her name is Keisha Evans, she’s a young talented Makeup Artist in Fort Worth,TX. She’s in school right now to be an aesthetician to pursue more than just makeup. ` I’m very in love and supportive with her love for makeup and ambition to be greater. We support each other hand in hand. She’s Blessed Beats by Keisha and I’m Blessed Lashes by Alexis.
