We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jimmy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always enjoyed DJing and loved the fact that I could make a living off of it. After 6 years of experience working for a DJ company in the wedding industry, I decided to start my own brand and company where I had control of how I wanted to be connected with my clients. I’ve had the opportunity to DJ for many businesses and organizations along with some of the loveliest wedding clients. Thanks to these people I’ve grown my business to where it is today. I have a great team that I work with to ensure all of our clients have a memorable experience.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others in my industry is my knowledge of culture and music. In the past 12 years of DJing professionally, I’ve had the opportunity to DJ many cultural weddings and learn new music. I graduated with a Fine Arts degree with a focus on Film/Video. That helps me understand the art and process behind the other vendors (photographers and videographers) I get to work with during a wedding. I’ve built many great relationships with other vendors which also led to my success. When I started DJing independently, business was coming in slow but quickly grew with hard work and dedication. If you believe in your craft and work hard, you will become successful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to go see America’s team, THE DALLAS COWBOYS, wreck havoc on whoever they are playing. For food, it will always be cajun food and barbecue. There are so many good places to go for both, but I do enjoy going to Cajun Corner for crawfish in Arlington. Their staff is great and food is even better! For BBQ, I tend to go to Heim in Fort Worth. For drinks, I enjoy going to the Ari Lounge/KBBQ in Carrolton, and Yellow Rosa in Deep Ellum.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize every single one of my wedding clients. They entrusted me to showcase my talent on their special day which lead lead to many more opportunities.
