Being true to oneself is always the ultimate goal. In the industry, that is the film and television industry, you receive a lot of offers and are encouraged to accept everything you get. This can sometimes mean that you are encouraged to accept work that doesn’t align with your values, and the older I get the more harmful that I see this can be- especially for younger people who are still learning their values- Hollywood has famously taken advantage of artists who are desperate to succeed. Today, more than ever, the value I hold dear is an awareness of the need to work as humanity for the common good. As an artist, I perceive the hardships of society, its disparities and turmoil, and seek alternative versions of dominant narratives. As an eco-activist artist working in the Utah Valley area and working with discarded materials, I am aware of the importance of building a future for humanity with innovation and resources, especially by limiting and, where this is not possible, at least rethinking, reusing and reducing our waste.
