Stories, Lessons & Insights

We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

Yes — my favorite Bible verse is Psalm 119:105:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
In both life and business, I believe deeply in being in relationship and partnership with God. I’ve learned to pray about everything — and to be specific. I often hear people say, “I just pray to make it to next week,” and I think, if that’s all you’re asking for, then that’s all you may receive. Read More>>

My favorite quote or affirmation is: “Take action, stay patient, pray to God…”
This quote is deeply instilled in me and serves as a source of strength during both the highs and lows of life, especially in my journey as a content creator. I truly believe that for most people, taking action is the hardest step. I know from personal experience that in the beginning, I sat on so many ideas without ever bringing them to life. They remained trapped in my mind or in my notes, never seeing the light of day. But early on I learned that no matter what goals I had in life, I’d never be able to achieve them without taking action and turning those ideas into reality. Read More>>

Well it kinda of started by accident. I had just retired from Boxing and if you know anything about Boxing, you have to always make weight so I wasn’t eating like I would want to so once I did, I just started cooking all the time mainly barbecuing and I would post it online.(social media) and people would request it so one time I did an event and it kinda of took off from there becoming a business. Because people were always wanting me to do catering for their events. Read More>>

As a wedding photographer, I define success as more than beautiful images—it’s about serving with intention, honoring God through my work, and loving people well.
If my photos preserve the sacredness of a couple’s vows, the joy of their families, and the quiet, holy moments in between—then I’ve done my job. Success is using the gifts God gave me to tell stories that last generations, while building a business rooted in faith, integrity, and purpose. It’s about being present—for my clients and my family—and trusting that when I serve faithfully, the rest will follow. Read More>>

Honestly? Choosing to trust God with the vision — even when I didn’t fully understand it.
There were so many moments when I couldn’t see how things were going to work. I didn’t have the resources, the blueprint, or the certainty. But I had the calling. And I made the decision early on that if God gave me the vision, I would do my part to walk it out — even if it meant walking by faith, not by sight. Read More>>

Other than deciding to work for myself, the single most important decision I made that contributed to my success at Caylo was choosing to stay deeply connected to my customers. I made it a priority to truly understand their needs, lifestyle, and preferences not just as shoppers, but as people. That connection shaped everything from the products I curated to the way I trained my team. It built trust and loyalty, and that genuine relationship is what helped Caylo grow into more than just a boutique, it became a community. Read More>>

The word risk makes me sweat a bit and I contemplated this question for a bit. I think there’s so many LOUD voices in society that tell us to take risk and we’ll achieve great things, but we certainly aren’t promised that. Sometimes risks don’t land the way we hoped they would and that can be disillusioned and detrimental. There’s something beautiful about life allowing you to stay right where you’re at, especially when it’s in your control. Read More>>

If I’m being completely honest, the legacy I want to leave behind is the impact I’ve had on people’s lives, not just as a photographer, but as a person. I want to be remembered for truly seeing people, hearing them, and loving them well.
Since the very beginning of my company, my prayer has been: “Lord, let me see them the way You do, so I can show them how You see them. Let this be for Your glory alone.” Read More>>

I love being creative and at the suggestion of others I took a chance and went to school and fully committed to an esthetics career. Then I fell in love with how I was making people feel, they were excited, they were happy, they were shocked at their transformations in such a great way that I really enjoyed doing that for these people. Then it became more about what can I do for people to make them feel better while also making them look better. Read More>>

With over six years of experience in the corporate space, I’ve become quite familiar with the concept of impostor syndrome. Pursuing a creative career on the side helps me retain my authenticity as a total film nerd. My writing is the total expression of my thoughts and feelings. Depending on the story I’m crafting, there’s a good bit of me in there somewhere. Read More>>

The phrase “If it’s meant to be, it will be” has never resonated with me. It suggests that life and success are passive experiences left up to fate, when in reality, they’re built through relentless work, discipline, and drive. I believe we all have the ability to shape our futures—we just have to be willing to put in the effort, make bold decisions, and stay committed even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. Read More>>
