Perspectives on work life balance

The Coronavirus has given many us an opportunity to pause and think about life, our purpose, and even the right work life balance. What’s your perspective and has it changed over time?
I have been through all phases of work life balance – I have had varying levels of responsibilities in my career and have been married with kids, divorced with kids and now an empty-nester with adult-ish kids. There were times in my career, pre-kids, that I had very little balance. Once I had kids, I strived to achieve both at work and at home and it was a struggle and a juggle, for sure. Today, my own health and wellness is a priority and I strive for balance that allows me to be the best version of myself both at home and at the office. Read more>>
When I first started my own business, I was available all day everyday. I didn’t have “hour of operation” because I was on a “go mode” mentality. Now that I have about 7 years in my business, I have set up boundaries. All money is not good money and precious moments with your family are priceless! I still don’t have it all the way together but making sure I stop way ahead of a “burn out” is really the change that I have done over time. I believe this regimen helps tremendously because now when I’m well rested, I’m more alert and have energy to get the style done better than if I was tired and in pain or didn’t have the energy to complete the style. My work life balance has always been in constant fluctuation, sometimes out of necessity, other times from obsession. I would definitely say that my girlfriend has recently helped me start to get that under control, and reign it in a little bit. Prior to meeting her, my schedule was filled with work from the moment I woke up and typically would go until I was heading back to bed. Before I was able to do audio full time, I had an office job that I would work from 7-4 then drive immediately to a bar for my second shift as a bartender/sound guy. Read more>>
My work life balance has drastically changed over time in a good way. Previously my thought process was work, work, work and if I did not complete it myself it would not be completed the right way. At this point in my life I’ve learned how to delegate work and take time to take care of myself. Maintaining work life balance helps reduce stress and helps prevent work place burn out. Over time I have learned to take time to myself when needed and I have learned it is ok to say no.
