The single most important decision that I made at the very beginning of Artspace111 was to surround myself with a good team! a great team really. We have many facets to the gallery including the exhibitions, offsite consulting, and events. One of the best decisions I made when launching D Media was to be flexible with my team and their work environment. Early on, I offered job sharing. I had creatives who were freelancing and wanted to keep their part-time client base but also needed a steady gig. I employed people who wanted to go back to school; I arranged for them work around their class schedules. I supported people with health conditions and understood about medical appointments and personal days. I hired women who were moms but did not want to lose their professional skills. I allowed them to work “school hours” so they could still be with their kids after school. I believe D Media has survived as a marketing agency and has been successful because we are quick to adapt.
