We had the good fortune of connecting with Zaira Espana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zaira, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I had always been drawn towards the idea of being able to create something since a early age. I would DIY anything that I could and add my own touch to it but still I felt I wasn’t being creative enough or creating what I should be and never knew why. Once I started making floral arrangements I understood why that was. Making floral arrangements allowed me to fulfill that creativity I had desired. I get to have my own imagination and vision and bring it to life! It is truly a passion I never knew I had. A couple years back when I was in high school, I attended a floral design class and by the end of the year I got asked what I liked about the class and had a photo taken by the yearbook committee during the 2016-2017 class year. The response I had given them is very similar to what I’ve mentioned, I’ll share the picture below! Looking at it now seems crazy to me, as if I am doing what I was meant to do. I am in this kind of career because I love what I do, I love using my creativity, and because of how rewarding it is. The simple fact that I get to brighten someone’s day or bring a smile to them with something that I created amazes me and brings me such happiness! I put so much love and hard work into each arrangement I make and it’s always an honor to be chosen to be part of someone’s special day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I love about my work is that flowers are a great way to express how you feel. They speak volumes without saying a single word. Making arrangements really is a form of art because of all the small details you pay attention to and how the elements and principles of art are all being used. I am proud of every single arrangement I’ve made because I know I put so much time. effort, and love to it. Being self-employed is not easy, there’s so much that goes on behind the scenes of having a small business. From working long hours, nights of no sleep, and the physical labor it is all very challenging but something that can help is time management. To introduce myself I am Zaira, I am 20 years old and mom of a almost 2 year old girl. My small business Zaira’s Floral started on exactly March 27, 2021. It was that day when I first announced on my personal social media that I decided to start that business and surprisingly but amazingly also was the day I had my first client and sold my first few floral bouquets.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they would come during the perfect time of when the state fair of Texas opens then that is where I would take them! It is a great fun place to go to whether it being for the rides, playing the carnival games, or even just for the food. We’d have to go to the Bishop Arts District or Deep Ellum area to eat. Somewhere we would visit or hang out would be at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden or Rockwall lake. Im the type of person that loves spending time doing fun activities so I’d have them check out the Dallas aquarium, Dallas zoo, Main event, and the Perot museum.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate a shoutout to my husband, my family, and close friends.

My husband because he helped me invest to start my business, he motivates me, and encourages me to take bold risks that I would never do if it weren’t for him.

My family because they always ask me how my business is going, they refer me to others, share my work and even purchase from me.

My close friends because they get so excited when I show them the arrangements I make, help me with ideas, and even go with me to purchase flowers.

They were there since the very beginning, back when I only had just the thought of starting my business. They show me how genuinely happy and proud they are. They were supportive every step of the way and still continue to be.

Lastly, I want to give a shout-out to my clients. They are why my business has been successful.
Support is shown in many different ways and I often say how thankful I am for all the support I get and I really mean that from the bottom of my heart! It is truly a blessing.
