We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Kestel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Will, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Sometimes I went on YouTube, and I’d see a detailing video with some crazy title like “Restoring this dirty barn find truck that sat for 30 years!” And I would click it. As I watched the satisfying pressure washing, extracting, vacuuming montages, I enjoyed it, and clicked another video, and then another. I realized then, that I have a thing for detailing. Creators like WD Detailing and The Detail Geek really got me interested in the field. And seeing a client’s reaction to the final result, especially on those really bad disaster details, it’s… it’s really enjoyable. And that’s what gets me going about detailing. That’s the seed that was planted in my mind which would eventually grow into Preston Hollow Detailing.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Preston Hollow Detailing, is a mobile detailing business based in Preston Hollow, and serves all of DFW. What sets me apart? Well, I guess my youth gives me a fresh perspective and outlook on the business world compared to older business owners. It means I can better adapt to the ever changing dynamics of social media, which are a key component to attracting clients.

At 18, I took the initiative to start this business and I put a lot of time every day into its growth. Of course I came up on challenges, such as finances, and gathering those initial clients. It’s good to go on the internet with an open mind, learn new strategies, and improve.

I learned networking is crucial to growth. For any other aspiring detailers or business owners reading this, you MUST network! Knock on doors, distribute business cards, ask your friends, post on social media. But above all else, word of mouth never fails.

If the world were to know my story, I would tell them this: You can start today. I quickly realized that it was up to me to call the shots and to put in the work. So take the initiative and make something of yourself in this big world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas Fort-Worth is a big place, heck, you’d need more than just a week to see it all. But I’ll give it my best shot. Firstly, we’re going downtown and visiting the Perot Museum, the Reunion Tower, and the aquarium. Now I live up north, so we’re going to Dave & Busters and the Dallas Arboretum. But you can’t go to Dallas and not try the BBQ (that’d be a shame). My two personal favorite BBQ spots are Terry Black’s and Ten50. Preston Hollow is sort of down my alley, where you’ll find Northpark mall and the Preston Royal Shopping Center.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For sure, my father. He gave me some of his unused detailing supplies, such as my first polisher. And when I was first starting my business, my father was one of my first clients. It’s good to have close ones around you that support your endeavors, and he is no exception.
