Meet Veya Salcido | Owner/General Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Veya Salcido and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Veya, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My family and I went through a life changing event in 2015. I knew I couldn’t make it financially with my current day job. Brainstorming, goals, dreams and a burning desire to success led us to venture into starting a moving company. We began to see how quickly DFW was growing by people from out of state moving to Texas. We saw many homes, apartments, and storages being build and Uhaul and Penske trucks constantly being rented. Me and my partner were up for the challenge so we began. At first I would get really weird stares because people were not expecting for a female and a male to be the crew to move the furniture in their home. But after a few minutes seeing how we handled their belongings with care and how outgoing we were, they could not help but love us. I have had several customers confess to me and say, ” Im not going to lie, but I was scared when I saw a woman mover at my front door.” But within minutes, that fear turned into respect and admiration. Some of our customers even commented to me how a woman’s input and influence in this line of work gave them peace of mind that their belongings were well wrapped and taken care of. When we come in to assist with a move, we make sure we give our customer the most warm and cheerful greeting and are very attentive to hear their concerns and needs. We do a walk thorough walk through to asses what and how we will be loading the truck. Since we are a family owned business, we like to treat our customers like family and make them feel like if their lifelong friends are there to make their move smooth and efficient. We work in a very steady pace being supper respectful of our customers time and budget. Most of our customers turn out to be good friends and they keep in touch with us for what ever we may assist them. They express to us that they would not use any other moving company for as long as we are in business. Our team has grown from just two of us to now 7 full time team members. Our success has been that we duplicate ourselves in our team. The crew is a reflection of our brand and philosophy. Honesty, great customer service, going above and beyond, and not stopping until the task is complete has definitely been our success factor. We strive to make sure we leave each job with a 100% satisfied and smiling customer.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The way we got started was subcontracting as movers with hire labor platforms. That is how we obtained exposure and experience in this industry. Networking with friends, ex-coworkers, realtors, apartment leasing agents, storage managers, and social media. We were quickly filling up our schedule two to three weeks out. We then added my son to the team, and a few other strong young men that we’d meet along the way or at moving jobs as well. Having a woman, not only as the owner, but also as a mover has been a factor to set us apart from our competition. The collaboration of male and female strategize has really separated us from other companies. Women seem to be more detailed and those skills do play a major role when it comes to wrapping furniture, and taking care of detail things that are important to our women customers as well. The guys have learned a few tricks watching me take care and handle challenging pieces or situations. I have learned a few tricks from them as well. Being coachable, attentive, detailed and mindful of our customers belonging is very much appreciated. We are not a pack-n-throw and go moving company. We care for your home and your belongings and what to make sure that absolutely nothing gets damaged and all arrive in one piece. What I have learned in this line of work is that kindness, trust and respect goes a long way. Our customers tend to feel very confident and comfortable with us the minute we arrive. It is rare that you find a customer shadowing us and watching us like hawks. They can tell with the first 15 minutes of starting their move that they can trust our crew 100%. Our crew will let you get to know them, as they enjoy engaging in various topics as they are working and moving. Most of our marketing has come from our customer’s recommendation and blasting their awesome experience with us on their social media. We had a customer that loved us so much that she recommended us to her uncle in Boston Massachusetts. We brought a 26 ft truck from Boston all the way to Fort Worth Texas. And we have a few more stories like this as well, thanks to our amazing customers sharing us with their family and friends. This journey has been such a wonderful and rewarding one. It has not always been a walk in the park, but for 98.9% of this journey, it has been an amazing and memorable one. I would not change it or even think to go back to what I use to do before this. (thats another story). It feels very rewarding to help families take the load and stress off their hands when it comes to moving. Our crew will be very quick to show you they are glad to help. So next when you give our crew a try, don’t be surprised if you find a female as part of the crew. That female is me, and I am a very personable, hands on owner that takes care of her company as her own child. We make sure our crew is well taken care of so they can grow along with us and be part of our team for years to come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When we have family and friends visiting us, we love showing them around to as many places as we can. One of our favorite spots is Bishop arts district in Dallas, or eat at various spots in Deep Ellum and enjoy the arts also. AT&T center down town is also a newer spot of attraction. Trinity Oaks is also one of my favorite spots because they have just a variety of foods to try. On a Sunday afternoon, I love walking through the Dallas Farmers Market. So much to see, hear, and taste. Then I also love to take our visitors to check out Texas Live in Arlington. You have the best of both worlds there too. Tour the stadiums, eat great food, or just enjoy just about every sport you can possible catch that day, on a huge TV screen inside the Texas Live! They have the one of the best wings in town! And we can’t forget about Fort Worth. Walking around Sundance Square, or 7th street by Montgomery Plaza, or to the Fort Worth Stock Yards and enjoy all you can eat Ribs at Briskeys. If you want to taste a GOOD margarita, you have to stop by at Joe T Garcias! That place is the bomb! Another one of our places to visit too is Downtown Grapevine Mills or SouthLake Town Square. Or if you just want to relax by the water or ride a boat, DFW has several lakes to hang out at. If you want to visit all Texas under one roof, then you must come visit They Gaylord Resort in Grapevine. These are just a few of the many spots I love to take my friends and family that come out and visit us.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a great SHOUTOUT to our parents. My partner and I both come from families that have a very strong, visionary, and determined work ethic. We were raised with the motto “Your name is everything!” The reputation, honesty, persistent mindset is what we saw in our parents. Always serving, blessing others, going above and beyond, never complaining. That is what we saw and has helped mold us to whom we are today. We dedicate our success to our mothers and fathers. They are our all time cheerleaders, referrals, support system, and shoulder to lean on. We can never repay our parents all they have poured into us from such a young age. We love you mom and dad.
