We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Orozco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
Starting this business was the most difficult decision. I knew it was going to be hard work and a lot of stress that came with it. So I had to really dig deep into what it was that I wanted and make sure I knew what I was signing up for. The day I made the decision, I remember going back and forth debating on it. And I called my mother, just to talk to her. She begins to tell me a story Ive never heard.
Shes 25 yrs old living in Mexico with my 2 yr old sister and 3 month old me and she has this goal to give us a better life. She didn’t know how or when but she was determined. Some how she was going to bring us to the United States and give us a better life.
And she did ….
So I’m listening thinking to myself how can I just stop this dream right here? How selfish and ungrateful if I say no to this opportunity just because I’m “scared of hard work”. So I did it. I opened my barbershop in August of 2020.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What’s been challenging is finding skilled experienced barbers who are stable and willing to work. Especially after the pandemic there’s been a shortage of qualified candidates. But I’m learning to hire slow and fire fast. This industry is growing and there’s a lot of great people who are coming into it. It’s getting better. I just need to put my brand out there to attract the right people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For kid friendly places we would definitely take them to grandscape, the hub, top golf, or pin-stack.

No kids , we would be at the stock yards or hanging at the casino (Choctaw) head over to neon cactus, Ernesto’s, or Gloria’s for dinner and drinks. Breakfast at Morning bliss. Relax at World Springs. Also see if there’s any concerts worth going to.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God first , but right under him is this wonderful husband of mine he has blessed me with. He’s so understanding , supportive and never complains without him this wouldn’t be possible. He’s my maintenance man, my support system, my mentor, my bodyguard, and my hype man. I am truly blessed to have him.
